I can't quite seem to figure out the monthly leaderboards. If I'm consistently in the top 100 on the daily word puzzles, how is it I'm never in the top 100 on the monthly word puzzle leaderboard (despite doing the puzzle every day)? Is there another way to generate points?

Thanks for any and all insights!

I don't have an answer to your question, but I see this was your first post on Sploofus so i would like to invite you to stop in at Salty Dog sometime. That's where most of the chatting takes place and is a good way to get acquainted.

You never know what might be going on: Right now there's a short-story contest underway, there's a Scrabble thread (you change one letter in the last word posted to make a new word), a few things just for fun and a political thread or two. Whatever is happening, it's never dull.

To get an answer to your question, you might write a support ticket if no one comes to your rescue here. Go to Help at the very top of the page next to "log off" and find the subject that best fits your question. You usually get pretty quick turn-around time from support tickets.

Well technically if you only do the puzzle every day, there's your problem!
There are two puzzles every day.

The difference is probably that getting into the top ten consistently pays a bunch more bonus points - 1000 for top 5 and 500 for 6-10, but piddly amounts further down. You're being pushed down the leaderboard by folks who get some top 10s.

Ah, that explains it. Thanks!

Smoke is correct , so just try for higher point score finishes.
Getting a score close to 5000 points consistently will give you a higher leader board ranking overall.

On a puzzle that I don't feel will be a strong effort for me- I try to not lose points even at the expense of using more moves.
The bonus point system is highly tilted to the Top 10 finishers for each individual word puzzle.

e.g.=== coming in at #60 and scoring 5000 points is better than coming in #35 but scoring 4700 points.

Good luck for March, 2009. Hope to see you among the monthly leader board players list!!

Barry, I forgot to thank you. I had no idea there were two puzzles a day; I'd only been doing one. That, too, explains a lot Thanks!
