NIMBLE NANCY

Really thought I was seeing a jack-in the-box last night. Nancy could really make extra bucks to support her mouse by doing a fitness video. She really made Joe look rather sluggish and wouldn't blame him if he were a bit put out by her. Also don't think the President had everyone's total attention lots of "Twittering" going on in the noble assembly-just my observation-Linda

Oh no! Nancy was too energetic and Joe was too sluggish.

We're surely doomed unless someone can get it just right.

I'd love to have half of her energy - Joe would have to help me up and down, especially if my knees got cold.

Ditto that Donna. I hope when I'm 68 I'm as spry and look half as decent. Freaked me out when I looked up her age. Off to the gym.

Get the hell out! She's SIXTY-EIGHT???

Wow. How dare she?

There was no point, really Linda, just a bit of pointless fluff.

My original pot was that, Smoke. If I get into things like the new Homeland Security Director not mentioning 9/11 and only saying the word terror once it gets really depressing. When questioned her response was in effect it is much of the daily routine and anyone who doesn't understand that needs Cliff notes-guess that would be me or perhaps a terrorist organization. We will soon be out of Iraq but troop numbers are being increased in Afghanistan but we have a new word for that as we no longer use the word "WAR". The numbers in the mess and the messes to follow are beyond figures that my mind can comprehend. That there is PORK in it is a given but that seems to be the only true bi-partisan effort here-hence Nancy's mouse, Harry's train, and the guy from Nebraska's efforts to combat some kind of fly or other insect. The whole chant theses days takes me back to the 60s and the chorus. "all we are asking is give peace a chance". I think we have given every politician way too many chances at everything from the economy either on up or on down. They are politicians and the nature of that makes them CORRUPT- IMHO- Linda

Sorry, I didn't get all that from the first post, I was just responding to what I took for light-hearted comments about all the jumping up and down, which I always thought was kind of silly.

Relax and pray, Linda

The appointments of the unqualified Janet Napolitano to Homeland Security and Leon Panetta to CIA Director mean that this admin will not pursue the War on Terror in a significant way. It's an open invitation to Al Qaeda.

Yes, Smoke, I also find it interesting that folks actually count who and when someone jumps up or sits on their hands-if I try to be serious about any of this, I will lose what is left of my mind- Linda

Andy

Maybe their qualifications aren't that important now that we have a qualified President who knows the real threat of Al Qaeda was/is comming from Afghanistan and not Iraq.

I thought the majority of the 9/11 guys were Saudi's, so perhaps that is where we should become involved. Many of the Gitmo guys seem to hail from Yemen. Believe the truth is no one is sure where terror cells will originate- and they don't need much to destroy lives as they are willing to die themselves. We can, however, be fairly sure that we are not well-liked in the Middle East period-justifiably don't know. The Mumbai attackers came from Pakistan so just who the hell knows? Politics there are so intertwined with fundamentalist radical religions and long-standing beefs-really do hope he has everything covered- Linda

Dream on, Kiddo.

Aren't you the one holding out for Blago's innocence as well.

FYI - the Presidency is not about intelligence. It's about judgment, integrity and leadership.

Andy

Accusing me of holding out for Blago (I assume you're reffering to Blagojevich) is like me assuming that you and Linda are drinking from the same bottle.

I thought we were talking about qualifications and you last post said "the presidency is not about intelligence". How about you be pres and I'll be you vice. Peace Out.

Excellent suggestion, Vickie!

An exchange of ideas is interesting and appreciated. Linda makes an attempt to start a conversation each day on a topic that has piqued her interest. I may not always agree but I always respect her opinion.

What seems to follow lately is a somewhat sophomoric mental flexing of opinions done in a biting manner. Discussions at times have become cutting and jump in at your own risk. One's opinion better not be based on how you feel either, be prepared to back it up armed with quotes and facts and links. Not everyone has a thick skin and can handle the arrows that may come your way. I'm not censoring, I'd hate that; would fight it with all my heart.

During the election we lost some of our most loved Islanders. I haven't reached the point where I accept this as productive. Lodi in particular will always be missed by me.

Just wanted to comment on the tenor of some posts lately. If you don't like what I've had to say....I guess we're even.

Twenty five minutes later and I don't feel quite as crabby! Maybe there's something to blowing off steam after all...

Thanks, Maureen. believe it or not I quit twice because my feelings were hurt. Still have to back off at times from the threads I have started. Some people if they don't agree with your view go for the low blow-some slight they imagined from a previous thread or something that happened on this site before many were even a part of things here-one of my main vulnerabilities is my lack of basic computer skills but am learning to try and proofread a bit better. Have found that some have no point to make other than to disagree or get a nasty jab in at some point- Have vowed that i will not quit because of that again-thanks for letting me start my often unpopular topics- Linda

Well, Skiddo, someone here posted to the effect that Blago was likely innocent.

If that wasn't you and I misread your thoughts, my apologies.

As for Al Qaeda, they were sucked into Iraq and they have lost. So in effect 5-6 years of the War on Terror were fought on their soil, not ours, they put everything into trying to stop the emergence of a democracy in the middle of the Arab world, and they lost.

Afghanistan? The object is simply to keep really bad things from happening there. We have been.

Catch bin Laden? We have finally developed some intelligence sources in those remote areas of Pakistan, and from time to time missile strikes take out Al Qaeda leaders there. Just a matter of time, but ObL is pinned down and can't communicate or direct his organization.

Andy, I was the one who said I thought Blago not much worse than all the rest of the "Politicians" He narcissism got him caught and thus he became an embarrassment. I see no real difference from seeing a position for cash in pocket from cash contributions on a campaign, a favorable vote on something you want passed, or a job or a raise going too a family member, etc. If you want to make some kind of fine line you are free too do that but don't call people ignorant because they don't. I firmly believe that the nature of politics makes all politicians corrupt to some degree-the longer they hang around the more corrupt and the more blatant the corruption becomes.- If you doubt me check out the current messes BOTH sides have gotten the pork/earmarks - if it benefits you or yours you most likely can make a case for it being worthy-either way it screws the taxpayer. Incidentally, I would most likely would have disagreed with Blago's vote on most things but then I don't live in Illinois or more specifically Chicago. This whole terrorist thing has become a bit of a political football thing too-Republicans tend to like defense spending while Democrats want to pour it into the economy. the next nut-jobs that blow someone up might come from Georgia for all I know-sorry Georgia- it certainly will come out of nowhere-Linda

no, Linda the remark to which I referred was posted before you and I responded.

It was to the effect, "Where's Fitzgerald's evidence against Blago?"

It was Snookerballs, not Skidrow. So my apologies, Skiddo

And I did not call anybody ignorant. I don't do things like that.
