Just in case you didn't see any earmarks/ pork in the last mess, take a good look at this Billion dollar baby. Pork on both sides. Obama is casting criticism aside by once again saying it is Bush's mess and his next one will not have any of this. HE will sign this thing even though it is only good through September and then MORE will be necessary. One thing I find of interest that even though the Terrorist Activities clearly began under Clinton's watch-Bush never once publicly said look at the mess he got me into after 9/11. Bush supporters were loud and vocal but not Bush himself- Linda

Can't we find a political website for those people interested in politics to go to?
This is NOT a political site; it is a place to talk about sploofus matters not world affairs.
EVERY single day we have to have five new posts all saying the same thing?
Give it a rest, please!

I'm not trying to offend you, personally, but every one else has at least one tune to sing.

The Salty Dog: General chat about anything and everything.

I'm in agreement with Barry. It seems that ALL of these political themed topics are just chats between 2 specific Sploofus members. Can't this ranting be taken off to PMs where they're not so irritating?

Although I respect both Garrybl and Maurlin and have enjoyed their quizzes, I continue to find the calls for censorship appalling. There are many topics in the Salty Dog which are of no interest to me or that in some respect I find personally offensive, but I would never advocate that they be banned. The political threads are usually fairly obvious from their titles and/or topic author. It isn't hard just to not read them, and if you accidentally hit a political thread, you can immediately bail. I know this is a trivia site, but I don't see that this means that everything associated with it has to be literally trivial. I am for exposing an apathetic and ill-informed citizenry to discussion of political issues in any forum such people may happen to be found. Sites that are consciously political tend to be frequented only by followers of the political views that are expressed there. Here, there is some slight possibility of actually changing somebody's views or, at least, getting somebody to research and investigate a particular policy issue.

Why does it not surprise me that you agree with Barry, Maurlin? The thread topic usually makes it quite clear what the topic is and if not it is clear after reading a few words;. The simple solution is since there are a variety of threads here-do not read the ones you find offensive. BTW have noticed neither of you responding to the very positive thread I start every morning on the Featured Player. That kind of sugtests to me it is about who begins a thread rather than what the thread is about- just MHO - Linda

As usual you said what I meant better than I did, Tsk. Not all folks choose to comment and from some of the responses don't blame them- have to grow a pretty thick skin sometimes-but the political topics get many more views than people who actually responding so that means folks are interested. Don't know if anyone's mind will be changed and personally believe there is no one answer but this thing gets me thinking and I have not done that for WAY too long- Linda

Linda - today may not have been the best day to make the comment about Barry and Marlin not responding to the player of the day threads. Anyway, I think it's great that you are so interested in what is going on politically. Do wish you'd expand your news sources though. You go, girl!

Just don't ever lose your sense of humor - I know you bring a smile to my face quite often. Of course sometimes you frustrate the hell out of me too.

The Featured Player of the Day, which was started by someone else a while back, is a very nice positive element of chat and not at all a downer or irritating. If it were the person who started the post that was the problem, certainly there would have been comments about it. My objection is totally the subject matter that is repeated and repeated and the comments regarding people who disagree.

I certainly do not advocate censorship...just the constant bickering and repetition.

In the Nimble Nancy post, there have been 23 posts thus far, with 10 of them coming from the original poster and 4 from the other person I referred to. A number of the other posts in that Chat were saying ENOUGH!

I quite enjoyed the Gaza Strip original post, which did have 37 replies. The original poster made 12 separate posts in it, and the other person also had 12. Again a number of the posts by others were complaining about the continuous posts and complaints about " good people being mean to one another", " don't like you telling me "wrong again" if you don't agree", and "You're off topic!".

I will, however, take your advice, and ignore these posts in the future, just as I have ignored the Add a Number, Add a Place, etc. The only difference I do see with them is that noone is attacked personally or put down if a number or place does not agree with the original poster.
