BACK BITING

Interesting that people who want to return to the "friendly" atmosphere in Chat and want the back-biting stopped, do a whole lot of just that in their rebuttal. Yes, I am "empowered" and will sh-- in everyone's yard like the old dog I am- Linda

I'm just concerned that this would be the activity that pleases you Linda, not at all interested in telling you what or how to post. Just would love to see a Happy Linda Post that indicates there is something other than the dire circumstances of the world's economy that captures your attention. Bet if you could find such a topic we would all be interested in seeing your clever and witty commentary, I know I would. Whatcha say Gal?

Jesus, Linda, you picked one word out of everything I said, and I even made a point of saying the comments did not refer to anyone in particular, but to the general tone; please show me where I engaged in backbiting in DEFENDING your right to post while asking for a kinder general tone to the discussions?

The second part of your post had a civil tone. In the first part you said in effect my political posts gave me a sense of empowerment as well as noting that i 'had paid through the nose" repeatedly-which I have- anhad said that multiple times. That is also true and still am not getting what I paid for but that is another issue. My reference was not only to you but to Rnmorg's "shit in yard" thing. Haven't heard anything from Rnmorg in a long time positive or negative and have been assured that I am too unimportant to have caused that

I am not enjoying this thread either. I did the apology one because that is what I needed to do. Neither of these subsequent threads would have ever happened if Barry had simply skipped my Omnibus post and did his usual overly critical puzzle analysis. All that said will slip this in: Anyone who thinks the carbon cap thing might not increase their utility bill might want to rethink that- Linda

I thought the first part of my post was entirely civil. As I said, "SOME" people DO feel empowered and more connected to events by complaining about them. This is a fact, and I know lots of people like that.

You've said several times yourself that you don't vote and have only recently developed an interest in these topics, and one can only hope and pray that constantly posting about these things reassures you or serves some other need or purpose. I tried my best to make most of my statement GENERAL. No need to take everything so personally. Maybe thats the whole problem.

When I mentioned being reminded that you've paid for several memberships, well, it's hardly a big secret that it's dastardly of me to mention; I was not even referring to you posting it, I was really thinking of getting that reminder from someone else who was defending your right to post as you please.

I had several "specifics" in mind, but that was beside the point I was trying to make, which is that it did not used to be a usual thing here to casually insult each other when we differ in opinion.

No thank you, I don't care to name names. If it's yours, wear it.

And, Linda, for the record...I never said I wished to return to some sort of exalted "civil atmosphere." I love the conflict! It is just YOUR continual nagging and disingenuous "well, I'm not important, but my insignificant views are this..." (Wah! Get out the nails and hammer me to my cross...) which has become repetitive, predictable, phony and annoying. I'm over it. I'm even up for some of Felix's abuse...bring it on, baby!

Oogie, in your post you ask to see a Happy Linda post - in fairness to Linda, every single morning she is up very early and posts the name of the Player of the Day with a congratulatory note. I call that a happy post.

Some of you may not think that listing the Player of the Day is necessary but some of us do enjoy adding a note of congratulations to the Player of the Day. A few members have found Salty Dog after being named player of the day.

As I recall, Smoke started that when we were in the beta phase of 2.0, then it was dropped when everyone came in to the new Sploofus. I picked up doing it a few times, but Stone really got to rolling with it. When she needed a break she asked Linda to do it.

So let's chalk one up on the happy side.

Absolutely, Pat. That's a nice feature. Been a long time since I welcomed a newbie; last time I posted I think it was one of my pub people, Heavyboots, whose name you may have noticed as a winner of several WhoTHs (terrific young woman in every way, is Heavyboots - she brought her parents to trivia this past week, lovely people, great players and they're coming back this week; I have a strong hunch mom will end up here on the island soon.)

Since Heavyboots Day I've mostly sent private welcomes to interesting-looking strangers when I've done their quiz or seen them win something. I guess because I didn't see much response and thought only a tiny number of newbies even look at the boards until they've been around a while, I got lazy about it. This thread has reminded me that even if only a handful ever see and appreciate the honor and the shoutout, really even if none of the honorees sees it, it's a positive, welcoming thing that's good for the spirit of Sploofus, and I salute Linda for keeping it up. I'm gonna try to do a better job of supporting it.

Party on.

Turnips and liver. My Grandmother used to cook them and I couldn't stand being in the house when either was cooking. Thankfully, Mother never made me eat them. If I had to sit in front of a plate of either till I ate it, my brittle skeleton would STILL be at the kitchen table.

Oh, bloody hell in a handbasket! I DON'T KNOW WHETHER I EVER WELCOMED THE PLAYER OF THE DAY OR NOT!

ALL RIGHT??!

It IS possible, I MIGHT do a nice thing like that if I'm having a REALLY great day, it's not unbelievable that I have been kind and friendly at some moment in time, and we don't have a search feature anymore to check, and I'm not digging back a year to see what I may have said in another screen name and another lifetime long ago in a galaxy far far away, so I didn't deny it when Pat said it.

I DID NOT SAY IT! I'M NOT TAKING CREDIT FOR ANYTHING EVER!

Gimme a flipping break over here already.

Donna, as far as I know, you may have. I don't remember, but I know in the discussion in previous threads on this topic, Diva's work there was overlooked before and was again today. I'm sure it was just an oversight, but she has had her feelings hurt about it before and I wanted to make sure she was included, since she was the first person I ever saw do the POTD thread. It stuck out in my mind since it was something new along with 2.0. Nothing against you. Just wanted to make sure Diva wasn't overlooked in that list again as in that previous thread.

Linda I think you are doing a wonderful job with POTD. Diva might want to do it again but I can't imagine that anyone else wants to get up so early and make sure the name is there. I for one appreciate you for doing it. Diva helped bridge the gap during the 2.0 gap and it was great. I honestly don't remember Stone or anyone else doing it either but I was gone during hospital stay for quite a long time. I do know everyone usually tried to join in like we do now and say hello. I know we ALL tried to help those that weren't platinum or paying when 2.0 was being tested but that's been so long ago I can't remember who did what. I kiddingly called the next Elvis associated WhoTHAI and WhereTHAI puzzles exclusively for Diva but alas at $100,000 a pop who listens to me. Is this really what it's all about?

Or what? I am there, every time the little digs come, and they never stop coming. I can barely participate here because sooner or later it comes back around to THERE. I'm ready to move on, so how about we all get on past this now, it's BORING.

Lodi left because she was ready to go, for many and complicated reasons - HER OWN reasons. I did not abusively drive her unwilling from something she loved, so please stop acting as though I did. She's a tough, smart, grownup woman, and mean old Smoke did not chase her away by saying unpleasant things about Sarah Palin; at most that was a last straw in a very big haystack that was not of my construction.

I will never stop being astonished that our connection was so slender after all, that it didn't amount to more than that to her. It did for me, and I grieved it for a long time. I'm not grieving any more, and I'm not accepting blame for what was not my fault. I'm truly sorry she's not here and everything isn't like it was, but it's not as though she is lost and gone forever like Clementine. She's somewhere out there on the web on Myspace or Yourplace or whatever, somewhere that she wants to be. Go find her if you miss her that much, and stop punishing me because she left.

I'm sorry to bring this here, people, but it really is what this thread is all about, I'm perfectly on topic, and I have tried repeatedly to resolve it in private without response.

Please, let this be enough.

I agree, Smoke. Diva, you obviously have a problem with Smoke - I've seen digs before - and about this same topic. Please keep it private between you and Smoke because it is uncomfortable for others to witness. And Smoke is right about there being other ways to communicate with Lodi. I just sent her a card and some books just last week. She has an email address and probably several other contact #s. I am sure she would love to know that you miss her so much, Diva. Many of us do. I do not believe one person is responsible for another's leaving though - Lodi has a full wonderful life and I'm sure she is just busy enjoying it.

Oh fudgesickles! I try to do something nice for Linda and then WW III breaks out because my memory was bad.

Diva, I am sorry I incorrectly named Smoke as doing the Player of the Day in the beta phase of Sploofus. You copied my post and should have noted my words: "As I recall..."

Now, since I was born back while the rocks were still cooling, my memory isn't quite what it used to be. I'm sure that doesn't affect any of the rest of you. But since the error was mine, why didn't you just simply - and politely - correct me in your follow-up post instead of bombing Smoke? I did not mean to take anything away from you. I JUST HAD THE WRONG PERSON.

Smoke may not have even totally understood what I was talking about and that's probably why she didn't say anything to contradict me. I'm guessing she didn't want to hurt my feelings.

Linda, don't you dare quit doing Player of the Day! You're doing a darned good job of making sure the Player of the Day gets posted and we need you to continue doing it. Several players have become more active on Salty Dog and in the various activities because of their recognition as Player of the Day.

No one was doing it after everyone got on the new Sploofus and so others picked up on it and continued doing it.

Now, I had better shut up or I will say too much of the wrong thing and those Baptists won't let me in church later this morning! (I think I can get by with using fudgesickles)

Re Quittting. Other than management -- which can cancel an account -- nobody here can make anybody quit. I don't know the reasons Lodi quit -- and fankly, I don't even care that she quit -- but her leaving certainly cannot reasonably be blamed on Donna. Unless Lodi was kicked off the site, and I have no reason to believe that is the case, she voluntarily decided to terminate her account. It was a decision which she made and for for which she -- not the man-in-the-moon, Donna, Barack Obama, etc. -- is responsible.
