ONE TOO MANY ISSUES

I have had about all I can take from the "Green" folks. It is not enough that their issues will increase the cost of everything. NOW they are on the move against "soft" toilet paper-something about trees-Knock off the "CRAP" please!! LOL Linda

Got a link for that? It has the makings of a great trivia question. Couple years ago I did a 10-question round from a survey about toilet paper and it was hilarious - people still joke about it, so it would be cool to throw another fun TP question at them.

Are the Green folks actually wanting us to use recycled TP? Yuck

Here's a link to an article about the issue:

http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/02/26/america/paper.php

The green (and economic) issue is about cutting down trees to make toilet paper as opposed to using recycled paper, as is common in Europe and even in less expensive American brands.

And it's not recycled toilet paper. How would that be collected?

This is not the "green" folks but equally ridiculous. Some airline has taken paying for checked luggage and peanuts to the next level. They want to charge people to use the bathrooms-takes me back to my youth and crawling under the door of pay toilets-I was in MUCH better shape then- LOL (this airline seems to be currently in Europe-Ryan or something similar) Linda

LOL...what's the big deal? I've been using "recycled" toilet paper for at least the past 7 or 8 years. I think it's technically called "post consumer" ... and terminology like that really is crap!

Nothing wrong with acting green, Linda. Recycle, drive a small car, turn off the lights . . . I really can"t understand why no White House has so spoken.

An airline charging for the bathroom is over the top, but the luggage charges have helped them cover costs.

If if makes you feel better, I'm not fond of overbearing environ"mentalists," but for a variety of reasons we must stop consuming so much oil, we do need to develop more green energy, and in general we must take better care of our planet.

Why should Linda care about GREEN issues. She will be dead before the planet dies, so why should a selfish cynic care about the next few generations.

Yes, i certainly am a "selfish Cynic" Barnie and you are right about me not caring about "climate Change" not at all convinced it is happening or that if it is we mortals have one thing to do about it. Funny "cynical Selfish" me does care that my kids will be burdened with tax debt. You just had to go and turn a rather "light' thread into a personal jab at me-well, Bring it on... I can do that too...Andy, you could lighten up a bit too-did not post it as a view on national policy - Linda

Barnie, I think we can do without personal attacks here.

I happen to agree with Linda regarding global warming which rests far, far from proven, but I do think we should act as if it does exist.

I don't put Linda in the selfish cynic class. As an older retiree (sorry, not trying to be offensive here) Linda is grappling with today's world and constantly questioning it vis a vis what she cut her teeth on. At least that's what I see.

Many are respectfully disagreeing with her thinking...a fine thing in this open forum. To launch open attacks on individuals for their opinons or the number of times they choose to express them is censorship.

I don't direct my remarks at anyone in particular, keeping in mind they are posted in THIS thread though I would have liked to express them in a few other threads that matched this in tone as well.

Having said that....I'm with Collioure (hope I've spelled it correctly, funny can't remember it at the moment) about doing green things. We've all laughed at Al Gore- have any of you seen An Inconvenient Truth? It's compelling. The man won the Nobel peace prize, it's worth a viewing.

Keep on posting, Linda. Folks don't need to click on what you have to say. If you just want to rant at her for posting at all, what's up with that?!

Maureen, while I laud most of what you have to say, I am afraid "An Inconvenient Truth" Is an unbalanced work, containing inaccuracies/exaggerations convenient to its proponents.

And can I add that it is not just personal attacks of all sort are really unwelcome.
I really dislike the tone of the uncalled-for comment about Linda.
Equally aggravating (though not as rude) are the comments that denigrate the people whose views you dont share. I think its funny to refer to people as environ'mentalists' (does that make it OK? I think so). I dont think it is either funny or effective to --for instance -- start a thread by referring to 'What the loony left....' or 'what the fascist right'.

If we could just keep the tone marginally civil it will reduce the aggro quite a bit.
Or at least let's send the insults by PM...

I think I wrote overbearing environ'mentalists,' Barry - that is, those who leave common sense by the wayside, exaggerate and often mislead.

I'll give you an example of an overbearing environ'mentalist,' Barry.

RFK Jr speaking about ANWR.

The reserve is huge - the size of the state of Maine. No reason not to develop the petroleum resources in a corner of the reserve. Plenty of room for the caribou. No one ever goes there either.

A total myth.

We do need to take care of our planet, but such drivel as we always hear about ANWR does not help the cause.

I think drilling in the national wilderness areas might be a necessary evil in the short run to lessen our dependency on foreign oil, and hopefully this can be accomplished with proper management/stewardship of OUR national resources. What bugs me is the fact that although lease agreements are in place whereby oil companies would pay for rights to use these areas for oil production, apparently no fees have been collected in the last eight years. If this is correct, then how many dollars have not been put into the national coffer, and when will this "oversight" be corrected.

Danny, I assume they'd be drilling those leased spaces if they were economically feasible. I don't favor drilling anywhere and everywhere, but ANWR is a myth.

Collioure that's RFK Jr speaking about ANWR just to be clear, and I'm afraid the guy has discredited himself even worse by his stance on the whole vaccine/autism connection of which there is no connection but many parents have chosen to refrain from having their children immunized as a result of his antics.
