Congratulations, Beth! You may have inspired me to quit. I had never thought I wanted to quit or even that I possibly could as I always thought I had bad nerves, and could never do without them. After I saw your other post, I thought to myself, I might could do that if I made up my mind to do it. I completely shocked myself for even considering quitting. I have never told anyone I quit, just when I smoked my last one. The last one I smoked was December 9th, going on 3 months, after smoking my entire life. It definitely isn't easy. It's something you have to do on your own, because no one can make you do it if it isn't your idea. I have gone without any assistance from anything such as pills, patch or anything, mostly cold turkey. I keep them laying around though because I know it's my choice, and that way is easier for me, although it may not be for someone else. I'm sure everyone has their own method which works best for them. I wish you the best Beth and thanks for whatever inspiration I may have gotten from you.

These are for you and me!

You've both done very well and I wish you continued success. Not having ever smoked myself, I do not understand the craving, but I have other vices which I need to address. Your example will be my shining star.

It just proves that you never know who is observing you and what an impact you may make on others.

Congratulations to both of you. I'm sure there will be at least one Sploofus member who will read your posts and decide that if the two of you can do it, then they can also.

Your stories are an inspiration to many, not just smokers.

Every day I spend at least an hour with patients begging them, threatening them, joking with them or trying whatever technique I know that will get them to quit. A couple weeks ago I had a young lady (age 52) who had a heart attack. I had been pleading with her to quit for years, knowing her family history of heart problems, but no luck - she went out and shoveled some snow and had "the big one". She did survive it, had 2 stents and is now on a boatload of medications. Throughout her 10 days in the hospital she had no cigarettes and I thought she had it beat. I patted her on the back a thousand times before she left the hospital. Guess what she did as soon as she got home - she lit up - and is back smoking just as much as she did before her heart attack. I wonder how soon until the next one?
Anyway - I now have two more inspirational stories that I will definitely share with my patients. Congratulations Beth and Marilyn - your quitting is a great achievement (and I hope it helps others to quit, too)

You've added years to your life and I just know you feel better as well. It's such a hard habit to quit, I know the willpower you had to exert not to pick up a smoke and light it up.

I love that Beth helped to inspire Marilyn too. Great Stuff!

Congratulations Beth and Marilyn!!!!

My greatest admiration, respect, and applause to you both. I've seen so many try to quit and not make it that I realize even more what an accomplishment this is.

Beth & Marilyn , I applaud both of you. I quit 13 years ago ,then went back. I am now 11 months free of smoking. The temptation is always there. My Grandchildren are my reason for not smoking . Also when I hear stories Slicko's. Keep up the good work.
