EESUSBEJESUS? LODI

I crossed swords with Lodi when I first arrived, but we healed the wounds. and exchanged pleasantries., but now she seems to have dissapeared. Does anyone have any news, please.

She got too icaught up in the political/religious bickering leading up to the November elections and was consumed by the dark side of the Salt Dog. Never underestimate the power of the negative threads and comments of the dark side of an anonymous BBS. That is why I wish all of this current political harangue would leave Sploofus and go to a place on a political BBS where 99% enjoy political bickering, instead of 1% in here.

There were some real jerks ( pre-election) that would not except anyone else point of view without belittling those in opposition. Lodi and Embee are somewhere laughing at all the folks duped by the Messiah that they elected. I can almost hear Lodi saying 'I told you so. ' More later, I have to go shoot my 401K and put it out of it's misery. Lodi and Embee are greatly missed.

1. Based on the number of people who actually participate in any of the forums, it appears that 98% of the people here are simply not particularly interested in this feature. I would dispute that 99% of Sploofus members who do participate in the forums -- as posters or mere readers -- dislike the political threads. A few people quit, allegedly because they don't like politial discussions -- although it really seems to me from what I remember of the small number of departures that the issue was not politics per se. Instead, the folk who left couldn't stand reading political posts that challenged their right-wing orthodoxies -- even though there are several active participants in the political discussions who are very conservative. Although I don't much agree with them, I do admire that they don't call for censorship of political discourse and are able to (a) simply not read the threads that they may find disagreeable or even more so (b) actively express their own contray views, however wrong-headed I think they may be.

2. If political discussions are banned in the Salty Dog, I might not quit the site, but I definitely wouldn't pay for another membership -- my own or any others.

Politics was the tip of the iceberg that everyone saw. If you know something more than that, don't assume everyone else does.

As Kaufman stated the politics were only the tip of the iceberg. Can we not go for a mere 24 hours without talking politics, hurting people's feelings and just being total asses? How many more will leave because of this type of craziness? I've said it once and I'll say it a few hundred more times...Arguing politics and religion causes nothing but TROUBLE!!!!!
You may now return to your local stations....I'm done!

Do you realize our membership has probably grown by 15,000-20,000 members since Lodi and Tex left? Those members have absolutely no clue who you are talking about, and they do not care when or why Lodi and Tex quit. Smaug still pops in now and then.

I enjoyed Lodi's humor and quick comebacks on Salty Dog, but I have to tell you that unless someone brings up her name, as you just did today, her name (or that of Tex or Smaug) never pops into my mind. How is it that some of you keep posting about them? What brings their names to your mind so often?

Sorry, I don't mean to sound unkind or bitter, but please, put the grieving process behind you and move forward.

Life goes on with or without us. Unless someone keeps picking off the old scabs.

The reasons/explanations people give for their actions are
rarely the REAL reasons. They're just the simplest.

I am with TSK here about if you don't like the political posts-skip them. I have quit twice long before the political threads ever got going. I had never participated in any kind of "Chat" and did not realize "pecking order". Any time you post anything here unless it is "sweetness and light" someone will most likely take exception to it and if you let that get to you-your fault not theirs. Lodi has been remembered here much longer than most folks who quit or simply disappear. Usually the funeral only last a day or so if it occurs at all. Perhaps she symbolized something -not sure. I am trying to figure out this political scene and don't get a two-sided perspective from any of the suggested "political sites". I will continue to post political things-suggest you petition Justin if you can find him to terminate my account. LInda

I agree that the Salty Dog has become a nastier place and I submit that people are turned off by the negativity found in the political threads. I propose that it *does* keep Sploofusers from posting here. Please note that those who are saying "Heated political discussion does NOT keep people from posting!" are those only those who participate in the heated political discussions.

I never participate in the political threads for that reason. I'm not sure why I am bothering now.

Do you remember the Tom Lehrer line about how he wished everyone who said they were bad communicators would just shut up.
I personally dont think the nastiness comes from controversial threads; I think it comes because some people are just plain nasty.
But maybe if I put LOL after that it wont sound so mean?

I'm a relative newbie here (but remember Lodi and miss her), have been on Internet community sites since 1998, and have noticed that 99.9999999% of political or religious threads disintegrate into some kind of ugliness. That being said, I still enjoy reading them simply because it helps me get a better sense of who someone is and also, along the way, provides more information about a certain topic as in Bradd's recent thread about the economy that got sidetracked into socialism.

Linda I was not suggesting anyone terminate your account because of your political postings...It is a free country still and I'm not trying to take away anyone's freedom of speech. I merely suggested trying to go 24 hours without posting anything political for EVERYBODY! I was NOT singling anyone out with my post. I guess I should have just kept my mouth shut...I will from now on!

"If you don't like the political posts-skip them" OR post freely just as it is OUR right, and complain about them. If you don't like the complaints - skip them! I wonder if the person who advocates "skipping" can restrain him/herself from responding to the complaints.

Not long enough, evidently, if you "swoop" back in to snipe those of us who have been here enjoying things all along quite well without your presence. Seems a bit insincere to do so, given your highly self-promoted stomping off without a public explanation. Martyr? Please! Saint? Give us a break! Anything for a grand exit or entrance, I guess.
