I used to do that in elementary school. The meal would be chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a slice of bread. The chicken was like a rock, wouldn't eat it. The green beans were limp and not so tasty, wouldn't eat them. So I would spoon my mashed potatoes onto the bread and eat that. Pretty good stuff. I used to also put mac and cheese on white bread.

An oft-seen item at "bring-a-plate" parties in Oz used to be cold mashed potato rolled up in slices of meat like what you might call "bologna"......known as "Devon" or "Empire" here.
It would be fastened with a toothpick and a small colored cocktail onion atop the toothpick for garnish!
They are kinda out of fashion now.

i didn't get the mashed potato one - just as well as I would never have guessed it lol

I thought the Irish had done justabout everything possible with spuds . My ex and I went to a smart restaurent once and they had 7 differet potato dishes that came with whatever you oerdered.

I like the sound of potato wrapped in a liceof meat - maybe a slice of ham - I might givethat a try when i next have a buffet.

Do you make "chip butties" in the US? (Potato chip sandwichs). Delicious!

marynuala - do you mean 'chips' as in 'french fries' or as in ' crisps - I think these are what they call potato chips in the states ( could be wrong tho'.

Either are great.

nice sandwich filling -
1 bag of crisps ( plain is my fav)
Grated Cheddar
mayo
tomato sauce

mixed together mmmm

I don't see what's so bad about mashed potatoes on bread. If you were eating a meal that had potatoes and bread (or a dinner roll, or whatever) seperately, there is a chance that the two will get mixed up anyway. Unless you take a bite of one, swallow it completely, take a drink to rid the remnants of the taste and then take a bite of the other.

Now pigs feet and chitterlings are just ewww in general whether apart or with something!

Bread is like paper. A piece of paper will hold still for anything you want to write on it. A couple slices of bread will sit still for anything you want to put between them.

Exactly Tuzilla - the words 'mashed potatoes' written on a piece of paper is exactly as edible as actual mashed potatoes between two slices of bread!

Hey Tuz are you saying the bread is an innocent party in all this?
