Hey, guys. Please feel free to post the chapters each week since our availability lately tends to be sporatic.

English Standard Version. Parentheticals are printed in the chapter so I've included them as presented.

Revelation 7 (The 144,000 of Israel Sealed)

1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree.

2 Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, 3saying, "Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants[a] of our God on their foreheads."

4 And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

5 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed,12,000 from the tribe of Reuben,12,000 from the tribe of Gad, 612,000 from the tribe of Asher,12,000 from the tribe of Naphtali,12,000 from the tribe of Manasseh, 712,000 from the tribe of Simeon,12,000 from the tribe of Levi,12,000 from the tribe of Issachar, 812,000 from the tribe of Zebulun,12,000 from the tribe of Joseph,12,000 from the tribe of Benjamin were sealed.

(A Great Multitude from Every Nation)

9 After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands,

10 and crying out with a loud voice, "Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!"

11 And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God,

12 saying, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen."

13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?"

14 I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

15 "Therefore they are before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple; and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.

16 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat.

17 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes."

Well, the English version on has all verses pushed together with footnote references. I tried to separate the verses and take out the tags for easier reading, and somehow didn't get all of one and ended up with a "thumbs up"! hahaha. Sorry about that. Also, some of the verses are still compressed and I hope that didn't confuse anyone.

I LOVE the Praise & Worship song "Salvation Belongs to Our God," which comes from this chapter.

The following all is what I was taught about what we're studying now:

I was taught that Christians will be removed from the earth before the Tribulation begins - that would be called the Rapture.

During the Tribulation, everyone would have to take the mark of the beast to be able to buy anything (including to buy food), and that anyone who took the mark of the beast could never be saved and go to Heaven.

During the Tribulation, the age of grace is suspended, and the only way to be saved is literally to work your way there, by not taking the mark of the beast and by surviving the horrors that occur during that 7 years.

I was taught that there will be some who do not take the mark, who turn to God and believe in Jesus, and who actually survive the Tribulation, and the 144,000 are those.

I like that God makes provision to wipe away tears, because there will be great pain at the loss of so many lives and souls. I guess God will have to wipe away even Jesus's tears.

the 144,000 are clearly the Jews, because the number from each tribe are given in the chapter (Dan is left out for some reason).

Also, I asked my brother (the greek scholar and minister) about people working out ther salvation, and he said that is only one theory with really no basis in the Bible for it. I believe the fact that the saints are wearing robes that have been cleansed by the blood clearly means they have been saved by the blood of Jesus, just as we are. Even during the tribulation, no one can be perfect enough to be in the presence of God except through the blood of Jesus, so they, too, have to trust Him in order to be saved.

Oh - I thought the washed in blood was because they were killed for their belief in Jesus.

Also, by the working out of their salvation, I meant the "work" they must do is refuse to take the mark of the beast.

Thank you so much for posting! It's been lonely in here.

We have 37 members. Somewhere. Revelation is scary and we have many who have different beliefs here. I guess it's hard to keep the interest when it's primarily a trivia site, not a religious site.
