YOU'RE ALL INVITED

On Saturday, April 18th, I will be running my first ever half-marathon! It's the Andrew Jackson Marathon in Jackson, Tennessee. I start at 7:30 and don't really expect to be done before 10:30 (I'm not all that fast), but I would be thrilled if any of you might be in the area and able to see me cross the finish line.

I'll be in pink and black and I'll put my name and sploofus name on my arms. I'll put Judy D on one and Fudy P on the other so you can find me. Fainodraino should be at the finish line, too, since he's my brother and he lives nearby.

Hope to see you there!

I wish I could be there! That would be fun. I could sit in my lunch chair with my cooler beside me, cheering (or heckling) the runners and enjoying my beer & snacks. But I promise to brush off most of the orange cheeto crumbs before I give you a big hug at the finish line.

In all seriousness, congratulations on your dedication and achieving a goal. Good job!

Thanks. I actually started running because of a post here on Sploofus. Someone, I don't remember who, asked, "What's on your bucket list?" I wrote mine down for the 1st time and realized that if "complete a triathlon" is on my list, I bloody well better get started. So I'm working my way up to it.

Smaug, how about if I post about 2000 times between now and April 18th?

Judy, you can SO do this! Even if you WALK a 15 minute mile (most reasonably fit people can), you can finish in 3 hours. I'm betting a 500,000 Sploofus points that you can do it in under two hours!

You GO, Girl! What a great bucket list wish!

BTW ... I'm training to run my first half marathon in June.

Judy -- and all other Sploofusers considering running long distances,

www.runnersworld.com has some great training programs for marathons and mini-marathons. Consider subscribing to their magazine.

Katy

PS: I'm not on the Runner's World staff nor do I hold any stocks in their company.

LMAO. I expected so much more than that from someone of your obvious intellectually superior position. Where do you drop out of school at...Detroit, Cleveland, Baltimore, Philadelphia? Can I have a full face picture of you for my school project? It is a pro-birth control poster.

Linda, actually, at first the gained weight is muscle since it weighs more that fat of equal size. After awhile, though, if a runner continues to gain weight, he is probably not eating enough. Increased activity without enough calories causes the body to store food up for what it "believes" to be a time of starvation

I've lost 10 pounds just in the last 6 weeks.

Thedon1, please go piss on someone else's thread.

Having completed many myself, having a goal of under 2 hours is a very acheivable goal even for a first timer. Let us know the outcome. Best of luck.

Great stuff, Judy! A little too far for me to be in your actual cheering section but I'll be there in spirit. It's quite an accomplishment.

What's up with this fool and his boring posts? He's got a real talent for showing us that he has a case of arrested development...

Judy:
Best wishes and my admiration for you [and bro' Fainodraino] accepting the challenge of your local race.

For those of us who can't be there in person, we'll have the "pink and black" image in our minds as you traverse the 13 miles or so.

A peppermint pattie can be a quick energy builder by the way. Never start a marathon without one!

Good luck.

Al

i call things like thedon1, black holes, because all of the names people come up with usually have a purpose in life, as a black hole is totally purposeless, i think, thats good enough for me, but oxygen snatchers is another good one.
