I'm not up to answering all the wonderful supportive PMs I've received in the past few days - typing with both hands while sitting up is hard enough, and doing it lefthanded with one finger lying down is a real challenge, not to mention reading sideways with the swirly dilaudid does on your brain.

Anyway, I just wanted to let all my Sploofus buddies know how heartwarming your messages have been; that friend's list is a wonderful thing, that so many of you heard about my troubles from a couple of shout posts and cared enough to send good wishes.

For those who hadn't heard, through my own stubbornness and stupidity I aggravated old injuries to my back and I've been in a world of hurt since Tuesday, took a whole week of bad decisions to get me there and it may be a long way back. Saw the doc yesterday and he gave me 9 injections - the dilaudid, which turned out to have the curious effect of instant and total pain relief, combined with 18 hours of helpless projectile vomiting, and an array of 8 cortisone shots across my lower back.

Latest update - The puking has finally stopped and I'm keeping liquids down, and the pain is back but nothing like it was. Haven't yet tried to take the Lortab, so we'll see how it goes.

Hey Donna - so sorry you are going through this! I hope the new pain meds will give you vomitless relief. Let me know if there is anything we can do to help. Maybe we could send you some books you haven't read or some sudoku or crossword puzzle books - sounds like you may be down for a little while and don't want you to get too bored. Good luck with everything!

How horrible for you. Back pain ranks high on "the worst pain" scale for me. It seems that doing nothing can aggravate it. I hope you're feeling better soon. Sending warm thoughts and positve energy your way.

I'm sending you lots of positive, healing thoughts, and believe me, if I could take you to the 24th century and give you a titanium spine that would make you feel all better, I would. I just hate to think of any of our Sploofus friends being in so much misery. I hope the cortisone and other meds help, Donna!

Add me to the list of folks who had no clue. Donna - I sure know back pain. You have to be good to yourself; rest and gentle exercise, and icing afterwards. Plenty of stretching. I do hope you're on your way to recovery by now!

Oh donna, so sorry to hear about your situation. Back pain is the worst. I'm currently helping to take care of my father who suffers from debilitating back pain interspersed with bouts of pain induced nausea and vomiting, and I can only imagine how horrible it feels. Sending you hugs and healing energy. Hope you feel better soon.

Donna, So sorry to find out about your troubles. If you're still ralphing ask for Zofran ODT, little pill you dissolve under your tongue, usually very helpful. Please take care of you. --Ron

That's awful Smoke....what a trade off - back pain or violent vomiting!!!!
How about morphine which is what I had at times in the Hospital????
Takes away the pain and puts you to sleep....sweet escape....
Praying for you and thinking about you, hope it goes away ASAP.
Lots of Love to you Donna.

All that violent vomiting would NOT help your back at all!

Rest up, get your spark back.
Looking forward to hearing your motor revvin' up again!

I missed the news, also. I'm so sorry - puking and back pain are each more than enough, so I can't imagine dealing with one right after the other. I had missed you, but I was hoping you had sneaked off for fun and recreation. Wish I had been right.

Praying for you a much speedier recovery than anyone can imagine!

So sorry to hear your news Donna! There is nothing worse than taking something for pain relief and ending up with more problems (in my case - I now find that anything with codeine in gives me agonising spasms for the next 5+ hours)! Luckily I only had to take it twice to confirm my suspicions!

Back pain can really make you miserable - I do hope you're up and bouncing around again soon!

Wow! Thank you every one for your kindness and concern.
There is no better medicine than this and I welcome and appreciate your prayers and good wishes with all my heart.
This kind of support and caring is what makes this place so special, and it's a privilege and a blessing to be a part of it.

I'm feeling very much better today with the last of the nausea gone and able to keep food down again. Funny I always say my daily lfe is a choice between pain and nausea because the most effective painkillers make me sick as a dog; well. that shot of dilaudid was the ultimate extreme of that, and when all is said and done I'd take it again. I've never been in so much pain without getting a baby to show for it.

I called the doctor to see if it was okay to take phenergan for the nausea and the nurse said I should've taken one when I got home. Could've saved me a REAL bad night if they'd told me before I left. Then the kicker - she said she was surprised he hadn't put it in the shot! Needless to say, the young doctor will be getting some stout feedback when I see HIM again.

Thanks again, dear friends, these posts mean more to me than words can say.

hi rowlanda, good to see you coming back, there is nothing quite like back pain, its up there with toothache and earache.

So glad the nausea is, at least, under control. Phenergan is great, Zofran is awesomer. Yes, awesomer is a word sometimes. But, I'm with BigBird. Try the icing. Or I'll try it for you. My favorite is the Duncan Hines whipped cream cheese straight from the tub.....

Please do feel better soon. I can't say I understand completely, but if my little aches and pains are anything to go by, I really do wish you well very very soon!!
