I want to see the infrared kill shots. Three simultaneous fatal head shots, in the dark, in three foot seas from 75 feet away.

Let's see Lithuania pull that off.

We rule.

I would add, that sources vary, but the average age of a Vietcong soldier was 17, and the average age of a US enlisted man in WW II was 19.

My father enlisted for WW II when he was 16 with fake papers and landed in D-day 9 days before his 18th birthday.

Well done those SEALS, but most people in the world would prefer it if some help was given to Somalia to solve the problem, rather than these silly statements from Smaug that "We Rule" Who the hell does he think he is, and on which planet is he living.

Point: These thugs are rich and do NOTHING to help their own. That ship was on its way bringing aid. Heard talk- rumblings actually that many believe the US should shell out money to rebuild that country-like it would ever be used for that as that would solve this problem. It is a lucrative business and they are not going to stop until they are STOPPED.. It was a also noted that the UN could set up a blockade off the shore and check vessels going in and out. Sure they will pas a resolution condemning the US LONG before they would ever consider that option. Surely you did see what happened when that very STUPID Congressman flew there to see what he could do to help? I thought Smaug's comment quite appropriate-guess it's the Gandhi or Mother Theresa side of me me- LOL Linda

I totally agree that there is already money in Somalia. If we "give" help, it will end up in the pockets of the corrupt, already rich, which will merely fund and support their pirate/illegal activities. They're rich, I might add, from what they've already gotten by corruption and criminal activities.

When do we learn that throwing money at problems doesn't solve problems - sometimes it adds to the problems.

Also - I'm sick of hearing how our action to protect our Captain and our ships and cargo (as do other countries) will cause escalation of the problem.

Like, paying them ransom for the Captain or other ships, goods, and crewmembers DOESN'T escalate the problem?

Please, these criminals (and in my opinion, terrorists) don't act reasonably. They don't think or act under the same principles we do. They'll take anything you'll give, sure, but they'll laugh behind your back - if they don't knife you or shoot you in the back on your way out.

lol....awww....let's feel liberal guilt. They were probably from a broken home. Probably their father was killed when a helicopter fell on him in Blackhawk Down, the last time the US tried to help their society.

They hijacked an aid ship for crying out loud. If they had their way the food would be rotting in some pirate port for the next six months.

I'm a die hard liberal, but this shit has to stop, and perhaps this was the best way for now. Smaug, liberal guilt? Looks like our "liberal" president did the right thing by staying calm and authorizing the mission. Doesn't mean you can't hope for better things for the Somalis. It's too bad that the economy is so effed up right now that we can hardly afford to help ourselves.
Go Seals!!

I give the President credit for his action-he did the only right thing. Now he needs to be strong and not be swayed by the voices that don't want him to take decisive action-like those who say it is a UN problem-PLEASE-- the are good for nothing. It gives me hope that the drone strikes continue in Pakistan and much to the dismay of many of his campaign supports has invoked the Bush policy of secret wiretaps. He may say the right thing in Europe like We do NOT torture but he has left himself leeway to use "enhanced interrogation" techniques and looks like many of the Gimto guys will end up detained in Afghanistan. If it makes him fel better he can Bash Bush to his heart's content as long as he continues doing what keeps us safe - Linda

I'm sure, or I would hope, that Obama wasn't micromanaging the military to this level. I would suspect he handed authorization to the commanders in the field to do whatever.

But, just for instance, much was made of the fact that a large pirate ship (god that sounds stupid) came out to rescue them and then returned to land.

Uh....why weren't they blown to smithereens?

From what I have hear the extent of his involvement was to tell the military to do what they needed to do to protect the Captain-for him that is a plus. Had he given any other order don't believe he could have shown his face. This time he gave the proper order- said before the key is what he does next- Linda

Helping out to solve a problem doesnt always mean throwing money at it.

This was on another site I post on --

"Those were some darn good snipers, from what I hear. They took out all three targets simultaneously, at a distance, on moving ships that pitched in the waves.

The question that I keep hearing is why did all three of the targets look up (break cover) at the same time? I assume that the SEAL team did SOMETHING to get their attention as a distraction. Maybe they set off some fireworks, or blew a siren or something that made all three pop up for a look. Just a suspicion.

Those are some damn fine warriors.

The one thing that this was not is "luck". One sniper taking out a target might be luck. Two might be a coincidence. THREE is enemy action. And the SEALS were the enemy."

One of the stories I heard said the SEALS sat there for many hours waiting until all three were targets at once (the 4th had left the boat to come to the US ship for medical attention).

Linda -- the poster meant "enemy" from the pirates' pov. One or two sniper successes they would have shrugged off. They couldn't shrug off three.

Interpretation intervention:

Those are some damn fine warriors. (referring to the SEALS)

The one thing that this was not is "luck". (referring to the ability of the SEALS to pick off three Pirates)
One sniper (referring to SEAL) taking out a target (Pirate) might be luck.
Two (taking out two Pirates) might be a coincidence.

THREE (taking out three Pirates) is enemy action. And the SEALS were the enemy (from the Pirates point of view)."

(I think the blogger's post might have been clear if he had stopped before the last part. My understanding is that he was praising the work of the SEALS)

(Side note: You can't imagine how ridiculous this feels typing the word "Pirate" and it not be in reference to a Pittsburgh professional sports team or a Johnny Depp movie.)

Many in the Cuban Community in Florida-hard working people-do not want normalized relationships with Fidel or brother-if you take that as a personal insult, all I can say is sorry that many people here seem so consumed with race and ethnic origin that they cannot separate the cutthroats from the rest. Those cutthroats trampled the rights and to continue to do so to the people who live in Cuba. I don't like most everything Obama is doing or not doing so by your logic guess I am a racist as you cannot separate the man and his policies from his race not me. I certainly will NOT renew as Platinum if at all. Linda

Whatever. I didn't mention the word racist so why would you accuse me of saying or thinking something like that. I merely asked how my son-in-law and grandson were supposed to sound when they speak since "Cuban talk" was the response. Its so easy for anyone to spit out hatred against anyone who doesn't share ones views and then blame the hatred on the other person. You can accuse me of anything I really don't care, I'm not the one stirring hatred.

Fidel and brother are cutthroats just like the pirates and the terrorists are. Having normalized relationships with either is ridiculous regardless of skin color or ethnic origin. This country is being polarized to the max because of people like Bobby Rush and Reverend Jesse Jackson who are so quick to say that anyone not of color that disagrees with them is spewing hate! People have had enough of this-trust me-Linda
