This is an extraordinary video of a forty-seven year old woman from Scotland...never married, never even been kissed. Let's just say she is the epitome of the adage - a diamond in the rough.

Yes, she is a truly remarkable woman. Looking after her mother for many years
instead of leading her own life and building a singing career....She probably looked
pretty good when she was young. I hate the way the media describe her as ugly!!!!

I finally got a chance to hear this and her voice is truly amazing. It's a shame that she was not able to share that with the world many years ago.

I was most impressed with the fact that she was not at all flustered by the audience - she was obviously nervous when she went out there and couldn't even recall the word 'village'. But when she sang, the crowd cheered, the judge stood and applauded in the middle, and Susan Boyle never cracked a smile - she stayed 'in character' and sang all the emotions that that song requires.

Stunning performance.

But I really don't get why people all say she's ugly. Unpolished, sure, but there have always been lots of opera stars who don't fit the traditional media-enforced definition of beauty.

Ugly? no. Ordinary? yes. She looks like many of my 47 y/o female relatives and church friends who are busy with work and aging family members and life in general--like relatives/friends who do their own hair perms because it's a lot cheaper than a beauty shop, relatives/friends who don't read up on the latest makeup trends and spend hours in front of a bathroom mirror, relatives/friends who walk their dogs and cuddle with their cats and make regular trips to the library for bestsellers. Susan seems to have a good, sensible head on her shoulders. Paul Potts, who was discovered two years ago on the same program, told her to take it day by day, and don't get lost in the glitter.

The uniqueness of Susan Boyle is just that...unique; why can't she be just that? She has had numerous requests to have a "make-over"...why isn't she just fine as she is? This is a picture compilation of her a child through to the present. After viewing these pictures, I'm beginning to wonder if she really is as dowdy as she appeared on the show...the pictures seemingly indicate she isn't.

We all realize Susan's voice is beautiful, but as you will see in the pictures, she has one other constant...she has a beautiful smile!!!
