His being given an honary degree at Notre Dame has also caused controversy. The head guy at Notre Dame said it is in keeping with some Bishops decree that no one who is Catholic and does not follow the teachings of the Church can be honored but Obama is exempt because he is a Protestant-go figure. Personally makes no difference to me but his citing of Biblical verse is yet another example of him using what he needs to use with no personal belief behind his words- still trying to figure out who he is and what he stands for if anything-Linda

Linda you truly can slant anything in the direction you want. Quoting scripture is a BAD thing to you. You'd rather he quoted the Koran I guess.

Well if you come in believing he is the devil I guess quoting the scriptures is in character.

Looks like a damned-if-he-does, damned-if-he-doesn't situation to me.

I can hear the Foxies and Dittoheads now if he'd appeared beneath the name of Jesus: "Who does he think he IS?"

No, Bush quoted Scripture but it was a part of who he was-using Obama's middle name during the campaign was a "no no' but he used it when he was sworn in to appeal to the Muslim world. He attended Rev. Wright's church for years but denied ever hearing said Rev. say anything negative about the US. He used him on his way up the political ladder but disassociated himself from him after he won. If I knew he were Satan and believed in that entity, Barry, it would give me some comfort as then i would be clear about who he was-talk about a slant-be glad when you can once again be over critical of the word puzzles on a daily basis as that gave you something to do. Do you want me to cite further examples of how he demonized Bush -rightly or wrongly- and is now doing the same thing?? Stick to what you do best-edit something-Linda

Donna, I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

I call them the way I see them.

The Right is very often binding with religion.

The Left vacillates between Christian-bashing and professions of faith.

I think they're both awful.

Oh please. Bush acquired religion the same way he acquired a "ranch" - as a campaign prop.

I don't give a rat's butt about the president's religion, as long as he doesn't flog me with it at every turn. It was a wonderful thing for America to elect a man of mixed race, and I think it would've been even greater to elect a woman, but I'm not going to be really impressed with how far we've come until we elect an avowed atheist.

It's not important to me at all and I frequently don't. I don't see any sense in beating a topic to death once my position is clear, so quite often I say my piece and step out.

I'm an atheist, not an agnostic. Despite this i do not say that there is no god, one cannot prove a negative. I contend that there is not one scintilla of evidence for a loving, omnipotent and omniscient god, and plenty of circumstantial evidence to the contrary. Because i cannot disprove the tooth fairy, it does not mean that the tooth fairy exists. The Abrahamic revealed religions are less than useless in my opinion, evil festers from within them. Most other religions tend to be less harmfull, but about as much use. I don't have a religious bone in my body, but that need not stop one from being spiritual. I don't need an imaginary friend to enjoy a forest glade or the ocean waves etc.

I'm with Smoke/Donna on this one in regard to how many would be up in arms if President Obama were pictured below Jesus or the "IHS" sign. (Remember Biden saying Obama was making plans for Easter - "he thinks it's about him.")

Bottom line for me is that I don't understand why he chose Georgetown as the location for his speech, when there are a million places he could go and not have to worry about any religious symbols nor have need of covering up anything - especially in light of the Notre Dame graduation speech controversy. Why purposely keep making questionable decisions?

Ugh. Extremists. On any issue. On any subject. In any form. You know, the kind who have to attack you for anything you say if it differs from what they believe? The kind so rabid that if you don't see as they do, you're nothing but a freaking idiot? And they get completely lathered up and hostile over the slightest of things and feel the need to impose their opinion on you? The kind of person that as soon as they open their mouth you fantasize about having a big fire extinguisher and just emptying it on them?

But then maybe that's just me.

I am not in any way religeous, I do not believe in some Loving Father in Heaven, who allows all the suffering that goes on in Africa, and elsewhere, mainly to young defenceless children, but I do believe that George W. Bush was the bigest, warmongering, hypocrit this world has seen, Go for it Mr Obamah, and to Hell, wherever it is, with all the people who criticise you because you do not fit into their idea of a president.

Bill, don't look now, but Barack talks one way yet continues many, many policies of the Bush admin - esp in foreign affairs. The tone may be different, but the acts are very much the same.

FYI I'm still waiting for the President he promised to be. So far I've seen a lot of partisanship, some of it deliberately antagonistic, and very little accomplishment.

The American voting public was duped by the one word platform of "Change". America should have known better when O'Bama was evasive on "How" he'd make things better. Imagine what this idiot will do if faced with something like 911. He hasn't done anything but agitate the problems that he campaigned that he'd change. He also didn't put time limits on "changing" things until he was elected. Our economy is collapsing around us and he's show's us his dog! LMAO when O'Bozo says " In my first term..........." Playing with fire again I see. Didn't this get beyond a joke last year? Didn't any of you learn from the several "retiring" members a while back, that discussions about politics and religion do not belong in the forums? Why don't you talk about something constructive, proactive, fun even? Go and write a haiku, or extend one of the never-ending stories ... ANYTHING, just leave the political BS at the door, people. If you play with fire, someone will eventually get burned.

My apologies, Andy. I don't know how you could see me singling you out from a group of 15, but nevertheless... I thought you joined in July last year, mate? My bad ...

But that wasn't my point. The point was, people are aware of past arguments and and were asked to avoid these topics in the forums - "Tell ya story walkin" - Take it elsewhere! Not for me, not for you , for the benefit of US (ya know ... Sploof US?) US does not mean USA, it means you AND me. I really wish some people would stop being so selfish and pathetic. Nobody is so 'special' that I am singling them out, by the way.

The idea is to grow, not dwindle in numbers. All of this BS that erupts makes soooooo many Sploofusers want to avoid the forums because it brings them down and tarnishes the otherwise fun experiences enjoyed at the site. Everyone IS entitled to their say, but there is a time and a place for it. Do you really WANT to keep up all this crap that makes people not want to renew their memberships, or worse, quit altogether? Seriously, too many people here are sooo self centered. If you just Chill-ax a bit, take a breath, make a cup of tea and go form a GROUP for the gripes, I'm sure everyone who wants to get in the ring will join the group. Then we can project a better image here. Some of us have been here so long that we forget what it is like as a newbie. I for one wouldn't have stayed if I encountered this garbage on my first visits. Would you? Have a think about it.

Under the Orange Community Button you will find the option to join or form groups. What a good idea.Try it. You might like it.

Too much energy wasted here. Nite x

Cool , no probs. We are all entitled to an opinion, even if we are wrong.

As I said this is not a dig at any one individual, but thank you for the colorful PMs. I was unaware that voicing my opinion is actually telling you what to do. I, like so many others, will now slink off into the hallways, rarely to return to the negativity that takes place here. A while back, I was told I was not allowed to write quizzes with tongue in cheek humor about any US presidents for fear of causing a revolt around election time. You do remember how heated it got in here around that time , do you not? So, in line with that, I think this. That's all there is to it. All I am saying is, there's a time and a place. I no longer have the time, and all of this is making me seriously consider (for the very first time ever) leaving the place altogether. Sad.

Enjoy each other's company, people. Sorry for having an opinion. But once again, it was the concept I was focusing on, not any culprits as some of ya have put it. This is why I never talk in here. Just a bit over it all.

I am very religious. At one with our Lord. (Pray each day) But I know the controversy that can arise from it ...
I do not drink much at all. I finally un-bit my tongue, and now I will just zip it for good, I think.
No attack on individual makers of threads or contributers to them. Look at the BIG picture.
If you do agree with anything I said here, I would love to hear from you. (PM)

Have a nice day kids
