closest I've ever come to abandoning a puzzle.
The first wp had a word in it I didnt believe; down to four letters in the alphabet and still couldnt find anything sensible or pronounceable; makes 'vugraph' look like a normal word.

Huh? I must not have gotten "that" word. I thought it was great fun!

Some toughies in that puzzle but I admit it lived up to its Daffy title.
Quack quack.

I got "that" word, with roughly the same ramifications. Not my favourite WP, but that's just personal taste of course.

Enjoyed this puzzle very much. Thank you Dave!

I got the word...but fortunately knew it.

Keep on composing puzzles!

I didn't get "the" word, thought it was clever and very well done.

Once again VuGraph is a very normal word.

Isn't Vugraph just a brand name for a viewgraph?

Love Daffy and loved the puzzle - must not have gotten "the word" but am dying to know what it was once the puzzle is over. Based on the ones I had I give it a definite .

Lots of fun, Dave! Clever, humorous and even provided a trip down Saturday morning memory lane. Good job!

First of all, it's nice to see some of you enjoyed the puzzle! Thank you all who left nice comments!

Now, regarding the mystery word, I found out from Barry via personal message that he wasn't familiar with Pismo Beach. It appears that he and perhaps Clevercloggs (and others?) were at a geographic disadvantage because they are Brits. I had thought (mistakenly) that PIsmo Beach might be known by folks largely because it is a running joke in the Bugs and Daffy cartoons (along with a "left at Albuquerque"). My lesson learned for future WPs I write: Be careful with geographic locations only made famous by cartoons!

I also regret the "hoo hoo hoo hoo" spelling of the sound that Daffy makes. I've seen it spelled many ways, especially "woo hoo woo hoo," but I used the "hoo hoo" version because it's spelled that way in Wikipedia (well, at least on the Daffy Duck page).

My apologies to those of you who stumbled through these two puzzles (or any others for that matter).

I was actually pretty concerned that cartoon trivia may not thrill many puzzle takers, and almost asked my editor to drop it as recently as last night. I'm definitely glad I didn't go with my first instinct to add "th" in front of s's to imitate Daffy's lisp! Then, I'm sure I would have had all of you telling me that I was dethspicable!

I didn't draw the "embarrasing moment", so I have no idea if it was "telling a hunter that it's duck season". But darn it, it should have been!

Wow, Ken, great guess on the embarrassing moment! The answer to "Ack! Never again!" was exactly what you're referring to:

"I will never again have a discussion about pronouns with Bugs Bunny"

The embarrassing moment was a little different:

"As Duck Dodgers I crashed my ship when I had the silly thing in reverse"

I don't remember Pismo Beach - guess I didn't pay any more attention as a kid than I do now. But I still enjoyed this one a lot.

I absolutely was looking for the "th" lisp - I was very surprised it wasn't there!

I thought this one was fun and I remember the line about Pismo Beach from the cartoons...and the one about Albuquerque that Bugs always said...I'd love to see more like this...just my opinion though.
