Dat was weal twute pepperdoc!

Monkeynips: I "got" twitter for a while on my phone. A friend hooked me up to it, invited me, so to speak. I went to the twitter.com page, signed up for an account, entered my phone number (cell phone) and there I can turn on or turn off my phone number to receiving messages. People can "follow" me and i can "follow" them. That is to say they can receive my updates and I can receive their updates - by phone (if it is turned on and I have also enabled updates from that person) Oooorrrr you can just go get your updates at the twitter website. Also, you can receive alerts in your email inbox that there is a twitter update meaning you should A. check your phone or B. check twitter.com.

What my friends and I realized very quickly: it is an extra step in communicating that we don't need. But if we want to follow a "star" or "personality" and that person twitters, it is cool. None of us do. I iguess if one was attempting to organize a wedding - a very large wedding - or a family reunion, or class reunion, this would be a way to communicate with dozens of people at one time. But then there are the new people who follow you that you don't know. THEY read your every update (like "Going to the mall with the kids to shop for prom outfits) and respond with inappropriate "eat up your text msg minutes" messages that you could care less about.

So, for me at least, it was an experiment in the "latest in technology for social upkeep" that was boring and/or bothersome at best and could have been costly if I had not had unlimited texting at the time. I say don't let it get you in a twitter.

I don't even like keeping up with myself! I really don't want to know what anyone else is doing, moment by moment. Surely this is a fad that will disappear quickly, like pet rocks....(shhhhh - don't tell my limestone I said that).
