SHOES

Michelle Obama was stylin' in her $540 French sneakers during a volunteering photo-op at a Washington, D.C., FOOD BANK this week. Her suede and patent trainers from the house of Lanvin are apparently all the rage among the celebrity set.

Maybe not such a good idea to wear outrageously expensive footwear (they're sneakers, for goodness sakes) to feed the poor. Shows a kind of "let them eat cake" attitude...

People should not forget. She is a millionaire. She's not going to wear shoes from Payless.

Maybe the shoes she chose to wear are just more obviously expensive than those of other First Ladies who have also worked with the poor. A more non-descript shoe is less obviously expensive? I believe the people she helps love her and could care less about the cost of her shoes or anything else she wears.

I'm ok with her shoe choice. But I can certainly understand others who are not.

You might want to research how she got her job....before you comment on how 'deserving' she is.

Don't misunderstand: I don't begrudge the first lady her fashion options. But I do begrudge the Obamas for their double standards when it comes to the flaunting of wealth -- and the earning of it.

Obama's supporters at the liberal Huffington Post website devoted an entire slideshow to John McCain's $520 Ferragamo loafers. CNN piled on with a feature on McCain's "well-heeled campaign." The "report" contrasted McCain's Italian footwear with Obama's "average guy" shoes.

Will they show the same indignation toward the first lady?

And Madonna wore a Chanel sweatsuit worth $2800 while in Africa to adopt a poor orphan. (How does anyone sweat on clothes that expensive?)

I think both are examples of people who are used to having money and don't really think about what it might look like to those who don't have much for them to wear those things. I don't think either was intentionally out of touch, rude, stupid, or any other negative. I think they just don't get it.

I can't imagine paying that much for a pair of sneakers (and only buy mine in the USA every summer with great selection and at half the price here)

but I don't hold such against Michelle.

This story is more evidence of an intrusive tabloid press which prints such nothingness but can't explain the issues that count.

It was a request I had no expectation of getting any concrete response from you, Andy....

People who have tons of money probably don't own $19 shoes. That doesn't make them bad people. I routinely meet with clients who wear their $5000 rings to personal training sessions. They are almost always nice people.

Judge a person by what they DO. Was she doing something right?

I have to admit that the teleprompter shoes are really annoying. It gets in the way of lifting weights.
