Did you ever wonder that ... I grabbed some data off the archives and calculated some splats, er, I mean stats. All times are start times U.S. east-coast time (EST or EDT), for the last 46 days:

Best times to play: 2 am to 5 am. The average #1 times are greater than 20 sec.

Absolute worst time: 9 pm. Average #1 time is 16 sec !!!!

Peak times: 7 pm to 10 pm. Have to beat 16.5 sec on average.

During the 'work day'(9 am to 6 pm): Forget it. Takes between 16.5 and 17.5 sec. Everyone has a computer on their desk!

Uh, how can you avoid you-know-who, uh, I mean, She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named???

Forget it, she is everywhere. Actually, she seems to sleep between 1 am and 7 am, so you can come out then...

(Not picking on you, kimmie7448, just pointing out your awesome talent!)

You are absolutely right. I try to get up REALY early to do WR, so I can be in the top 10 with my crappy score.

Do you have an extra room, Bev?

You know when I first joined, you could actually get into the Top Ten with anything under 30 seconds during peak hours... and might actually get on the board with much higher times in the middle of the night (for me-- USA Eastern time zone).

It's kind of ridiculous lately with the sub-15 sec times.

I generally attempt WordRounds only when I wake up stupidly early. There are very few people on at 4:30AM Eastern US time. Of course, my eyes aren't focusing yet. I think it really all boils down to your system and your mouse. Someone once posted a suggestion of trying to go as fast as you could without even reading the questions to see what was possible - and I could never get below 30 seconds (and that was without reading). So, I am very happy when I break 45 seconds and actually get them all right. I am never in contention! Alice

Ditto to Violet!

I got one WR in 14.01 sec about 2 weeks ago and that was sheer luck! I am lucky to break 20 sec most of the time...I can't read that fast even thought I am a speed reader.

Actually the best time to do word puzzles is when Kimmie or Ed or Linen isn't on - lol - then maybe you have a possible chance of making the top ten. Those three are only a few that are so good doing them. I do remember the days also that 30 seconds could get you on the board - but not very often now. I am not sure I want to stay up until 2am to do some rounds though.

Sure, back in the days of less than 3000 members, I could get on the board with a 30 sec time. But now we have over 11,000 players! There is ALWAYS somebody better then me on WR's!

But when I play at around 10:30 PM AZ time (Mtn Standard), it's about 1:30 AM MI time (Sploofus Standard) and I can usually get in the Top 10 with a 32.

If I cana't sleep, wake to go to the toilet or get up early between 4.30am and 9.30am I try to get a WR or 2 in as I stand a chance of getting in the top 20 lol
I am on slow dial up with visual problems so anything under 120 - 130 secs is fast. I have noticed during the hours mentioned I stand a better chance of getting less than 100 secs.

I have also notice I get 100% first or second try more in that time gap - no sure if the Q's are easier or my weird brain functions better while half asleep lol

If I get below 30 and 100% I think I have died and gone to heaven, happens only a few times, and of course 10 others have it in 28 or less - but hey it is an easy 500+ points and fun to do.

In the Quizzes there is a category for "Experts Only".
Wouldn't it be nice if we could have 2 categories for WordRounds... one for the EXPERTS and another one for us SLOWPOKES!!

Actually, Digs, I have tried to work out a way to do this so I could suggest it to Sploofus. I haven't figured out how to keep the super-speedy WR players separate (or if that's even fair). Perhaps simply making the Top Twenty or Thirty would help.

Don't get me wrong-- I have done very well in WRs and when I do play, I can get sub-20 scores (and a glitch has afforded me sub-10 scores a couple of times ) but I often feel for the players who have no chance of ever getting on the board because the freaky sub-15 second rounds has become the standard. It's got to be disheartening.

I guess I have the wrong attitude. I feel like getting a big Way To Go is enough satisfaction for me. Sure I try to better my times but getting on the board is low on my list of reasons to play WR.

I've been in the top ten, usually at the lower end) and it's fun to get those 3000 points for that score. It doesn't happen consistently but it's happened several times. I'm not on all day and all night to do it. Sometimes I just sit quietly and play to best my earlier scores. But I know it can be disheartening to be new at it and never get on the scoreboard and see the same few always up there with their nanoseconds of time. I think it discourages newer players from attemtping WR When my eyes start to water from trying to make it into the top 5 I just go back to the quizzes so I can focus.

I think the best time to play will be when the entire eastern half of North America (or at least the eastern time zone) has a blackout. Kimmie, Linen, Taz, Ed, Group....all live in the east.

Checking the weather now and praying for a VERY BIG STORM (no casualties mind you...just a power outage...couple days should do it)

Ok...praying for a big storm is just wrong.

Changed my prayers for a very large transformer to blow up and then systematic blackouts for a selected few.

I think WRs are fun... thought the stats would be fun! More...

Who's shown in the top three the most times in the period?

kimmie7448 342 times
ehodgson 252 times
tazmaniac75 249 times
yawbus 245 times
linenlady 211 times

Guess who has been #1 the most?
The second most?

OMG I am shocked but not totally suprised at Kimmies score lol
I have tried to think of way around this too.
I wonder if it would be possible to devise some system that rates 11 - 20 as a seperate ' level'
I would not to see the rounds them self get any easier though.

Actually, if Sploofus could post the top 20, I would be ecstatic. You wouldn't believe how often I am #11!

Another tidbit, from rounds 9923 thru 11026:

Of the 54 people who placed in the top 3:

44% were Platinums
50% were Golds
6% were Regulars

Yeah, a top 20 would do nicely for me. I'm always between 5 and 14. Usually closer to the 14.
