PRESS CORRESPONDENTS DINNER

http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=president&hl=en&emb=0&aq=f#q=president+roast+2009&hl=en&emb=0

some funny stuff.

I guess the critics were right about his reading his texts.
But its nice to have a president who CAN read.

Barry

Yes, funny stuff. Would really feel much more confident if I knew who was writing the material he reads though-something about know thy enemy... Linda

Carmel, you are too funny. If Obama single-handedly rescued 20 people from the fires of California, you would ask, "Sure, BUT who did he leave in there ON PURPOSE? Huh?? That's what I want to know." lol. He's always suspect in your book; you keep him honest. I have to smile.

I had a blast watching the speeches ("You would!" Caramel says, smiling back at me.) I thought it was clever, not too pointed, in good taste, he poked fun at himself as much as anyone, and they say he did a much better job of "going off the prompter" this time. He even made a joke about that. It was fun. I wanted to see more of it than they showed. The best thing was that for once, everyone seemed to be relaxed, and having a good time. Thank God for that. We've had so much stress and bickering. I was glad to see people laughing together. Back to bickering tomorrow...

Yes, there was humor there and he did make jokes about himself-waiting for the press to make the NYC flyover picture as much of a signature item for him as they did the Mission Accomplished banner for Bush. You are one of my favorite people her, Godwit, as is Knerd, Karen,. Doubt we will ever agree about even small issues concerning Obama or his Presidency but neither of you two are small and spiteful in picking at me personally in your disagreement with me. Like it that both of you don't seem to find it necessary to bash Bush to say what you like about Obama. Don't think that says much when you have to be thankful in your mind for what s gone and do not seem to be able to articulate the positive change that actually shows and not just a campaign promise-Linda

Aha! That sounds like a challenge! The red flag waving!
But...I know better than to jump into the political argument ring with you.
I would rather be your friend, and stand aside, while you argue with people who enjoy the battle. There are plenty of them here.
I admit I enjoy teasing you on occasion, though.

Barry, I really don't know. Obama is brilliant and I really hope he gets some important stuff done. But so far I see lots of naiveté and too much heavy-handedness.

It's nice to have a Prez who can communicate again, but for me it results that matter.

It was hilarious. I laughed so hard. It's really nice to take a break from the bickering and enjoy the evening. Would somebody please tell me why does the Right Wing want President Obama to apologize to Rush?

I would be happy with pretty much anything he said if he said it minus TOTUS- and if he quit apologizing to the "Toads of the World'" for my country. It is only the Left that has made Rush a big deal-never listened to him before it suited their purpose to say he was the leader of the Republican Party- kinda like Al Sharpton leads the Democrats only do believe Rush is smarter and the better speaker-Linda

RMAOLOL Linda and Collioure,
If it wasn't for the lack of understanding you have; I'd say you're both hilarious. But, I know you're serious. Do you like that war profiteers Bush/Cheney et al invaded a country which had nothing to do with 9-11? There is a huge difference between putting a new face on America and than being apologetic or arrogant. It's arrogant to think those people are less than American people. The windbag Rush Limbaugh is smart because he memorized the dictionary? He's invited General Colin Power and Michelle Steele to leave the Republican party. Every Repug who isn't in concert with Limaugh's litany of vitriol comes back to apologize to this idiotic, self-deluded, man. At least Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson make sense and have made causes toward the betterment of peoples' lives. What has Rush done besides brag about his $4million gig which, by the way, 12% of the staff had to be cut so his employers could pay him. Where's the Love of country and fellow co-workers. ***tsk tsk***

BTW: President Obama is the leader of the Democratic party!

Beverly, don't include me with the Limbaugh followers. He's a loudmouth Republican shill.

I was just recognizing that Obama began by apologizing abroad for lots.

As for Jackson and Sharpton, I used to view Jesse (in person in Chicago in the 60s) as you still do. I don't any more, and if you knew the details of their "businesses," you might not either.

Cannot quite see where I apologized to Rush -said I had never listened to him before the Left made a big deal over him. You are among those who find it necessary to bash Bush - Cheney as you cannot cite one positive change from the charming reader. I too would laugh if I didn't know You were serious. Linda

Heard a bit more and find it odd the Sister Wanda makes everyone laugh by saying she hopes Mr. Limbaugh's kidneys fail-purely hateful and had it been directed the other way the press would be outraged but many laugh too -

Sorry , Andy, that is so NOT funny. A cbs guy had to publically apologize for saying probably many soldiers would like to shoot Pelosi. It was even more not funny when Totus laughed too-you lighten up or take a hike or have Odile hand you the cordless phone in the bathtub or something else that you do to while you spend your your days in France commenting on how ":BRILLIANT" Totus is. I live here and he is a Scary DUDE-hows that for hilarious? Linda

It is poor taste at best to joke about wishing anyone's kidneys would fail. Anyone who has ever watched some die from this would fail to see the humor or most likely ANYONE -Democrat or Republican who has ever had an issue with alcohol or drug abuse or know anyone who had would find it SO... not funny either. To have the TOTUS laugh shows his total lack of taste as well . This kind of "humor" belongs in the bathroom right next to the toilet with all the other things that are not funny to anyone with class. Anyone can make any kind of joke about themselves that they choose so what is your joke about yourself, Andy, other than you hope it is not hot for your hike as you melt easily? GESUS Linda

Political humor is supposed to singe not burn. Sister Wanda used a flame thrower. A note on class: it was said today that Mr. Limbaugh said not one word about her comments. Robert Gibbs tried to distance TOTUS a bit by saying that some things like 9/11 should be talked about in serious forums and not the subject of jokes. However, on the Video TOTUS was clearly laughing when the Sister said she thought that Rush was a 9/11 terrorists who was high and got on or off the wrong plane-something to that effect. If it were reversed and a white comedian made such a joke about a black liberal pundit/ radio talk show guy ending with the hope that he had some organ failure it would have been labeled as HATE SPEECH which it is- Linda

The Rush Limbaugh part of the joke aside, are we far enough in time and attitude that it's ok to invoke 9/11 in a joke already?
