G'day guys and glams

Which US sports are being played in Sept and Oct? I want to see the Yankees and NJ Devils play ... (Not at the same time LOL)

I noticed my Passport is running out in 2 years and it still has not one single stamp from never being used. I think we should try to do something proactive about it, don't you? Who the heck wants a post card from me ... face to face?

A while ago, Patty Cake (Salzypat) told me to draw a picture of my perfect house, so that one day I would know I was home when I saw it. Well, it worked. I am currently spending some time with an old flame (recently added honeybane at Sploofus) and just relaxing and recovering from a pretty tough last 2 to 4 years. I am going to do a lot of writing down here for my creative projects and business plans. So now, I may decide to live in Tasmania and go back to teaching, which are 2 things I swore I would never want to do again!

Anyway, I thought I would apply the principles to my next project, getting over to give hugs to all those in my close knit circle of Sploofus friends. AND I am making a checklist on a map of all the places we will visit, starting with ...

... Red pins for roller coaster and water slide parks! (A life long dream since i could walk!)
6 Flags Parks, Disneyland AND World, Knott's Berry Farm etc More MORE!!!!
Who the heck wants to come for some rides with me?

... Gold Pins for Sploofus guys and glams who want me to pop in for a day or 2
Nomes, Patty Cake, Suzy Q, Phitzy, Little Suzy, Big Al, Bobo, Miss Polly, Nan, Jimbo, My Belle, Kell, John Bo, Vick - TOO many to mention. Add ya name. All those who get post cards are plotted on the map so far (50 or so of ya!!) So we will need to have a mass meeting or party at some stage
Lisa, Ron, Wendy and Wendy, et al from Ontario

Justin ... can I come and visit the Sploofus HQ and brain?

Was hoping to be coming for 6 months so we could do UK and Europe first, then lob in US. But will prob just do 8 weeks in US and Canada this time starting in the US around late next August to early September, stay for Halloween somewhere and then up to Canada to see my mates in Ontario etc ... So who else wants a visit?? Party?

... Green Pins for all the site-seeing stuff on the nature side
eg Canyon, Falls, Lakes, Mountains, Rocks
PLEASE let me know what is on offer in your state around Fall/Autumn (Aug - Oct)

.... Blue for all the tourist spots I have dreamed of visiting
eg Hollywood and Ground Zero, Broadway, Graceland, Whitehouse, Statue of Liberty, Empire State, Hard Rock Cafe, Film sets etc
Oh and I will want to try to hook up tickets to Oprah and Letterman, maybe Ellen and Springer too. Dave and O are must see. Can anyone help there?

So - Who is available for a beer or a mini road trip ... or a big one! Or to go and see a game (Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bulls, LA Lakers, Celtics, NJ Devils, Yankees, Sox)

What's on the agenda for Fall?

Come for a ride!

Ricky (Dyenamite)

Ricky come to Tennessee and we'll either go see the Tennessee Volunteers play football or go to Nashville to watch the Titans play. We could even go to the Grand Old Opry...There are a lot of things to do here and we have Dollywood! LOL

I've got plenty of room here in Sarasota for you to spend a few days...all things Ringling here, and less than 2 hours to Disneyworld in Orlando. We could have a Sploofgroup meet 'n greet there, like t'was planned a few years ago. I'm in, and you're certainly welcome here.

Nomes and I live close together in Central Pennsylvania. There may be a few other Sploofusers nearby too.
[Of course, York was first capital of united states.]
Historical area for sure. So - if you come our way!

In New Mexico we have the International Balloon Fiesta from 3 October through 10 October. Usually 500-1000 hot air balloons participate. It's the largest event of its kind in the world. Our autumn weather is perfect - days about 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit and nights cool down to the 50s. If you're interested let me know - I can forward all kinds of info, and if you decide to come at that time I'll be happy to serve as guide.

Hi Dynamite,

American football is the absolute king at that time of the year in the US. High school on Fridays, colleges on Saturdays, and pros on Sundays. I can hardly wait! The professional baseball season is winding down during this time and the playoffs begin in October. There are professional golf and tennis events then too with the US Open tennis tournament the most major event during this period. Colleges will have events then like volleyball, soccer, and gymnastics during that time and are fun and inexpensive to attend. Good Luck!

I'm still working on sending you a postcard of Micheal Jordan. I think of you each time I'm in the store when I see a post can. When you come to Chi-town, we can visit Millineum Park, Navy Pier, the Art Institute of Chicago, Musems, The Shedd Aquarium, Wrigellyvile, Cellular Park (home of the World Champion White Sox), and Neighborhood Festivals or Chicago's Celtic Fest and Chicago Jazz Festival amongst so many others in the fall. I love to reggae; we can reggae not to far from the friendly confines of Wrigellyvile. We can visit Oprah's former cook's restaurant, Comedy Central, John Hancock Observatory's ( you'll get a view of the whole city) the top of the rock the restaurant there revolves; try not to get too dizzy. I'm already a dizzy ole lady, but cool as my kids say, Chicago's Food Planet Food Tours ( I hope you'll enjoy the Chicago pizza), the Green Mill, ( was famous during AL Capone's days). The list is so long and I only mentioned the North side of Chicago. So how 'bout it?

Virginia is nice. First permanent English settlement at Jamestown 1607. Surrender of Cornwallis to end American Revolution at Yorktown. Also Colonial Williamsburg, nice tourist adventure any time of year. Yes, we have roller coasters too--Busch Gardens. I'd love to meet some fellow Sploofusers. Let me know where the party is Anne

Come on to New York! I won't go to any games with you - you'll have to go yourselves, I'm "totally" not a sports person - but I'll drag you around all sorts of neighborhoods, and the obligatory tourist meccas. Make a list of what you want to see.

Mymaria, where in Montana? I spent the last six years in Missoula, and while I was there I thought I was the only one from Montana!

You're welcome to pop in in Oregon Rick, or somewhere nearby, there's a number of sploofusers in the area, and though we aren't as glamorous as some states, we could always head out to the Gorge, the mountains, the coast, they're all really close to where I'm at. We don't have alot of professional teams, the professional basketball team out here doesn't start until October "I think", but there's still plenty to do here. Portland, where I'm at, is home to a ton of microbreweries! We have more microbreweries than any other city in the country! If you are bringing your daughter we could hit up the Science Museum (which is often geared towards children anyway) or the childrens museum out here, both fun.

I'm moving into a house in September, so it depends on the timing a little, but your definitely welcome at my house anytime. If you come in September there's a great celebration of Italian culture, among other events I'm sure I could hunt down. If you end up arriving closer to October there's Halloween celebrations all month (my favorite holiday). Alot of what happens here isn't even announced yet, being the Pacific Northwest's third biggest city there's always alot going on, great concerts and other events happening all of the time.

Ricky, go to an Oakland Raiders home game (if you can even get tickets) and be amazed. The game could be worth watching too.

So are we talking September/October 2009 or September/October 2010?? 'Cause if it is 2009, I'm going to have to get to hustling on housecleaning! By 2010 I "might" be ready.

Maybe we can have some mini-conventions. Perhaps something could take place in North Platte for Nebraska, the Dakotas, Kansas and Wyoming Sploofus members. Those of you in the southeast could have one for folks in that area, etc.

Start saving your nickels, Justin, because you'll be invited to all of them. To get to North Platte you'd have to fly to Omaha and then come by covered wagon to North Platte!

Ricky, the Yankees stop playing at the end of September. (Some of their fans think they have already stopped playing.) The team to watch these days is the Red Sox who have one of the few old-time ballparks left.

The Devils open the regular season in mid October.

But you want to see American football at that time of year.

Three places (or four) that would combine sports, roller coasters and water parks:
Disney World (4-5 different theme parks, so either get a park-hopper option or plan to spend a week - Look for "hidden Mickeys" check the photos on my home page for a few).
Knoxville, Tennessee area - just a few miles from Dollywood, which is beautiful in the Fall. They have a theme park, good shows, and some great roller coaster (Skip 'Timber Tower' ride), and a water park. While in Pigeon Forge, watch 'Tennessee Shindig' - the best Elvis impersonator I've seen lately (he's 17). If you can get tickets to a UT football game, do it!
Cincinnati, Ohio - Two theme parks and Cincinnati Reds Baseball.
Williamsburg, VA area - Yorktown, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, and Busch Gardens Theme park is fairly close.

These are the places we've been to in the past couple of years, and enjoyed them all. Just wish we'd had more time and money.

As you know, Rick, I am about 45 mins north of Toronto, on Lake Simcoe. Not much to see in my town but lots of fun to be had on the water (maybe go out sailing?). Slightly north of west Toronto is Canada's Wonderland - Amusement Park and Water Park together. Last summer they finished construction on:

"Canada's Biggest, Fastest and Tallest roller coaster - Behemoth. Following 18 months of planning and construction, Behemoth will premiere at Canada’s Wonderland in May 2008.
At over 5,300 feet (1,616m) in length, Behemoth sets the stage for thrills with a climb to a height of 230 feet (70.1m), followed by an adrenaline pumping 75 degree drop with speeds reaching 125 kilometers per hour in 3.9 seconds. The coaster will then take riders through the ultimate coaster experience with high speed twists and turns, including double banked flat loops (horizontal loops) and eight extreme drops. Intensifying the action packed adventure, the ride will feature prototype open-air seating that will allow all riders to experience an unobstructed view of all the thrills and excitement on one of North America's best coasters"

Obviously we have the CN Tower, Toronto Harbourfront, Rogers Centre (formerly Skydome - gotta love corporate sponsorship!), Air Canada Centre, Ontario Place, Centre Island (beautiful place to stroll with a small amusement park for little ones - take a ferry from downtown to the island)...even just walking downtown is awesome. If you are here in late August we have the Canadian National Exhibition which is always a good time (last 3 weeks in August ending Labour Day).

So many awesome things to see and do in Toronto I couldn't possibly list them all!

And.. I'm totally up for a mini-sploof fest here too! :D :D

Marty, that would be a classic to catch up with you man. Cheers mate. I think we will make it for EDFEST and so will be in London for a bit, travel round a bit, maybe see a west end show with Didier and pop in to Surrey to see "the Bog" Bill tells me about, hop up to Lincolnshire, see a Liverpool game with Andy and a mate or 2 from oz, then on to Scotland for the fest and party with marty!!
Dunno where to have the UK Sploofus catchup dinner ... any suggestions? I'm leaning towards the Bog

Lisa, sis ... I have already been researching the best roller coasters to visit (Florida, Ohio, Texas, California, Canada, Japan Germany and UK) so I heard of Behemoth and can NOT wait to ride it with you. WOO HOO! I will try to do Canada before it gets mushy and slushy. But I dunno about sailing - me and water doesn't mix unless it is waterslide parks. WOO HOO!

Thanks for the tips Michael. Always was gonna do most of that, and had planned to do Disney World in a week so stay in Florida for 2 to 3. Best time for Florida?

Felix ... you hook up the tickets and we will go to the game. Seriously, if anyone can hook up tickets PM me. Any team any sport any ... TV shows!

Jeremy it makes sense to spend Halloween with you seeing as i dedicated that Horror film trivia square to you back in the Beta testing days. So if you are up for it, I will get RIGHT into trick or treat festivities. Bwahahahaha Was also thinking we could have a halloween catch up fancy dress for sploofus people over near Oregon ... Vegas maybe?

Will go to see balloons in New Mexico and the alien museum. Will stay in Virginia and Tennessee for sure, ladies. Montana if we can squeeze it. Gonna need a holiday after this so probably got to Hawaii for a week at the end.

Bev ,,, I cannot wait to try the pizza and visit with you, bigmamma. I hope we can get some Bulls, oprah or jerry tickets and you can come to see me get my bull tattoo. We will need a week or so in Chicago by the looks. what dates suit you?

US Open Tennis sounds like an opportunity I should try to not miss. Anyone going? We should go together.

Kelley I still will hold you to a Yankees game, and I wanna see the Reds play too. Raiders for sure V Dolphins??

ROAD TRIP!! More suggestions please. This is so inspiring. Thank you guys and glams. Thank you Lord! I am blessed.

By the way. I have many friends who are house bound so PM me and let me know where to bring you my Hugs and Smiles. I want to see you giys and glams too.

FYI: I'm in between Graceland (Memphis) and Dollywood/Grand Ole Opry, etc. (Nashville) Not housebound yet, but it seems to be on its way. Bad days here right now.

Oprah and Springer shows both may still film in Chicago, both free tickets, but you might not get in at this late date.

JJ - What better person to tag along with to some games. I can't wait babe. PM me and let's talk about some accommodation plans. Ok? I don't get into Baseball much at all, but I do need to see Yankees play and maybe Cubs or Reds ... Or Sox. One or 2 games max. I just wouldn't feel right coming to US without seeing some sports.

Looks like it could be possible for a New Orleans catch up. Who would be in for that? In fact,Add here and/or PM your availability for the following Sploofus Dinners ...

... New Orleans
... Oregon
... Ontario
... Orlando
... Philadelphia
... Texas
... Chicago or Michigan
... Nebraska

Let me know ASAP if you want to try to make it during Fall to one of these dinner dates. (Dates supplied soon-ish)

Is there anyone who could try to get Oprah and Jerry tickets? What about Dave and Ellen? I would be eternally grateful. Dates soon.

Thanks guys and glams - SO EXCITED!

Bev-o (Bushyfox) has planted a seed - I think it would be unbelievable to spend Thanksgiving in the States. What date will that be this year? And who the heck will put up with me and put me and Bridget up for the night? It depends where we are at that date, but it would be lovely to spend it with Nomes, Patty Cake, Suzanne (one of you 3) ... or Ruth, or Dave or anyone who is keen to show us ignorant Ozzies what Thanksgiving is all about. Thanks guys and glams

Rick, you would be in for a crazy time when my family all gets together for Thanksgiving. There aren't a lot of us, but it does get pretty nuts. Four sons, ex-husband, two daughters-in-law, 4 grandchildren, 1 maybe-to-be grandson-in-law and one great-grandchild. That just makes 14 of us, if I counted correctly, but that means there are usually 7 conversations going on at the same time. But oh the food!

I just feel so blessed to have all my family around on those special holidays. I'm glad my ex-husband and I get along to spend holidays together so the kids don't have to walk on eggshells trying not to offend either of us and deciding who to spend holidays with..

When it gets near Thanksgiving we'll see where you are in the U.S. With all the offers and plans you have, I don't know how you're going to fit it all in!
