Barry, great puzzle. Google and I had fun puzzling this one! I love it when I can play and learn at the same time.

Glad you enjoyed it. On reading the five clues I got (no gimmes amongst them) I wondered whether I'd made it too hard.
anyone who wants details after trying the puzzle please let me know.

You will have to tell us afterwards who it was. To me, it was about as obvious as a WTHAI.

Thought the clues were just right Barry - enjoyed it a lot.

I loved this one because it was the 1st one that either recorded my score or I got to finish in a couple of days.

Great puzzle, Barry! I had an inkling about who the mystery person was after my second phrase, and it was confirmed by the end. I really love the mystery puzzles. Thanks for a lot of fun!

I thought it could have been one of two
people, so would love to know who it
was....please Barry.
I try not to Google so the answer will be
a surprise.
Fun and interesting puzzle thanks

I still have no idea who the person is.

It was WC Fields.
One or two clues made it easier (Baby Leroy appeared in one. Micawber in another Sara Bernhardt in a third)

Apologies if you got none of these or got them too late in the set.

Got stuck on the words "ad lib" and the word "quirk" didn't come easily, but I really enjoyed this puzzle.

Thanks Barry, please do more on this theme.

The first clue/phrase that made me think it was W.C. Fields was:

Not from alcohol - his red nose may have been a genetic quirk from his mothers family

Anyway, again, terrific puzzle!

Ah, he was really one of a kind.

When we take a moment to read his biography during one of these wonderful puzzles, we appreciate his vast talent even more.

That's who I thought it was. I remembered reading somewhere about the gin in the baby's milk. The red nose puzzle made me wonder if that's who it was. The other three puzzles didn't help me at all. It was a fun puzzle.

... Or if I'd never heard of Baby Leroy or McGawber.

Very well done Barry!
W.C. Fields was certainly a character.
His delivery of "My little chickadee" is one of those movie catch phrases you don't forget
