My mom has made a near miraculous recovery from her long struggle with swine flu and pneumonia. When she first regained consciousness about a week ago, it was predicted that she would have to spend another three to four weeks in a long term acute care facility for physical and respiratory therapy. However, within days of waking up from her near coma, my mother was ambulating by herself , eating , talking a blue streak and was taken off the rebreather and put on a nasal canula instead. I just got off the phone with her, and she's being discharged today, not to another facility, but completely discharged, without oxygen no less! The doctors are all floored by her progress. None of us who know her are that surprised, however. My mother has an exceptionally strong spirit, and we all suspected that once she was awake and alert, she would put all of her energy and will into getting well. She'll be flying home next week and I can't wait to se her. I can safely say that this has posibly been the longest, most emotionally exausting month of my family's life. Thank you all again for all of the prayers and healing energy you sent my mothers way. There is no doubt in my mind that all of that positive energy helped in bringing about such an relatively speedy recovery.

The body has an incredible ability to recover from the deepest illness. Our bodies are indeed wonderously made. (The workmanship on some is just a little bit better than on others! )

I'm so glad to hear your news. Once she gets home to her own bed and familiar surroundings she can only improve.

Thanks for keeping us updated on her progress.

I haven't been checking the message boards in a while and saw this post and went back and dug through the older posts to find the previous ones. Bacterial pneumonia is some scary stuff. We went through a scare with Rob a couple years ago and it was horrible. I am so glad to hear your mom has made it through this. I hope she continues to get better and you guys don't ever have to go through this kind of thing again. (((HUGS))))

Alison, how wonderful for your mom, you and your whole family! Truly an answer to prayer. With such great news, she'll probably want to kick up her heels in celebration -- so tell her to go slowly. She really sounds like the coolest woman, what a great spirit. It's such an awesome outcome! All the very best to both of you, Emily
