I recently stumbled upon the "Simons Cat" series of animations on Youtube, and as a former cat owner found them dead on. Anyone who owns or has ever owned a cat should get a chuckle out of these.

Thank you, Alison. We needed a good laugh today!

We lost our old matriach this afternoon I brought Charlie home on 30 September 1989 after spending a few weeks with her and her 2 siblings at a chalet park in North Wales. It appeared the queen was dumped when she was pregnant! My Mum had been down there a couple of weeks before me and I persuaded her to take 2 (her first cats - Pebbles (a tortie) and Sandy (a tabby with a sandy tum) and I brought Charlie (girl) home to the mad house to join the clan. She has seen quite a few of our feline family come and go during those 20 years - she has taken them under her wing (and kept them in line right up to the end). She lost her buddy Bob Sox just over a year ago but still she soldiered on after a period of mourning!

It seemed she was invincible - she'd been given a couple of weeks to live by the vet about 8 years ago (liver failure according to the blood tests), but the daily steroid pills helped her to eat and the 2 weeks and months and years passed! She accepted my husband and his 2 dogs into her family and grew to love Neil also. We rescued a further 2 dogs (all big) but they didn't faze her either - she'd let them come to within a few inches and then hiss and swipe them! She developed diabetes a few years ago and I gave her daily insulin injections for a few months and she became a non-diabetic again. She was quite arthritic for her last couple of years and yet could still spring up the stairs, although she chose not to go outside during those latter years. She was a wise old owl and we'll miss her dearly - the house seems quite empty now, despite still having 4 dogs and 3 cats - there is always that hole when one goes!

Neil has made a box for her today and we'll bury her in the garden tomorrow next to Bobby.

Sounds like Charlie had a good life, several good lives in fact, and that you gave her a good home in which to live all nine of them. We've had many dogs and cats come into our lives and then when they go, and it just isn't very easy. Sorry for your loss, glad for your happy memories.

Nelly, so sorry to hear about your loss. Words cannot describe the grief that acompanies the loss of a pet. It sounds like she had a wonderful life with wonderful, caring, devoted animal lovers. No cat could ask for anything more. Sending you hugs and prayers.

I lost my soulcat, Thomas Jefferson, in March, Nelly. My life will never be the same. You have my deepest sympathies.

The "Vandy" family also has been [and is] a haven for stray kitties. We have had our share of losing a pet , so our sympathies go to Nelly for the loss of Charlie.
One of our kitties, Jada , is sickly with liver problems, so it's touch and go whether she will start eating regularly soon. She's only 8 years old, so she should regain her strength is all goes well.

Thanks to Momkeynips for the Simons Cas videos.

Nelly, so sorry about the loss of your dear Charlie. What wonderful memories you'll have of her. Thank you for including the link to the card. That was adorable.

Cujgie, sorry you lost your faithful friend, also. You can never replace them, only open your life to another. Each time I have had to put a pet down it's so hard and I keep saying, No more pets, no more pets. And after a few days or weeks, somehow, one finds its way into my home and heart.

Carol – I’m so sorry to hear about Thomas Jefferson – it’s so very hard!

Al – I do hope Jada picks up, as Charlie did, and has a long and happy life ahead of her.

Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts and support.

Charlie is at rest next to Bobby now and covered in Tete a Tete daffodil bulbs!
