WASHINGTON - A retired U.S. State Department worker with top secret security clearance and his wife have been indicted on charges of spying for Cuba over the past three decades.

The indictment unsealed Friday in Washington says Walter Kendall Myers and his wife, Gwendolyn Steingraber Myers, have been clandestine agents for Cuba since 1979. The pair were arrested Thursday.

The indictment says the pair met with Cuban President Fidel Castro in Cuba in 1995, traveling through Mexico under false names. They allegedly made several other trips to Latin America and the Caribbean to meet with Cuban agents.

Just strange.

What info could benefit Cuba? Unless they were reselling it.

Seems to me they're close enough to turn on the TV and pick up any info they need.

They can even learn about aliens from the Discover Channel. No, I don't mean Jon and Kate.

Some 'blog' comments: (go easy on me, I'm just the messenger)

I'm sure Cuba found tons of info that could destroy America's Parks and Recreation programs. I am assuming they got information to build a better merry go round.

Spying for Cuba? For what? So they can use their vast industrial might to build weapons to use against us? Looking for military weaknesses so they can use their large population to invade us?

Why would anyone need spys against us? Obama is releasing documents on our interrogation techniques already, and I'm sure there are more to come.

It's Obama's fault for palling around with Chavez and Cuban terrorists.

They spied for more than two decades. But, they were discovered on Obama's watch, so the GOP will find a way to blame it on him, I am sure.

Has it occurred to any of you geniuses that classified info obtained by Cuba could be sold or traded to any country Cuba needs a favor from? No, of course it hasn't. Short of that, it aids Cuba in negotiations with the U.S. to know what we're really thinking -- what we'll settle for in return for what.

Just think. If today's Mystery Place puzzle were about, say, Montana, that's who they'd have been caught spying for.

Talk about David and Goliath who cares? Were they doing it for money, betraying their country and committing treason.
