WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE....

......For sploofus to introduce a facility to allow us to delete threads from our Salty Dog?
That way when certain people started threads or even contributed to them we could delete the thread altogether and never have to revisit it.
That would be great for my blood pressure.

Or could we get some sort of 'marker' so we could highlight a thread to remind ourselves not to go back to it?

Don't some sites have an "ignore" option, where if you don't want to see another members posts, they don't appear on your screen?

Sandy,
An ignore option would be great. But, wouldn't that be practically the majority of the site. I'm a new member to this forum who was invited by an editor. I've been a sploofus member since 2006 and never knew this forum existed. Had I know it was this contentious I would have never started posting here. It's one thing to have an opinion attacked. However when others what to attack the poster with vile words rather the issue,it becomes a horse of another color.

I choose not to apologize for for my bible thumping thread, becauseI felt those who took offense were just as wrong. I did however, make myself perfectly clear if anyone was offended that they shouldn't have been since I was only referring to those who ascribed to that type of thinking: therfore only those bible thumpers knew who they were.

My point is once you take a stand here so many others will come out with their intent to name call and argue. Frankly speaking, I really tired of trying to clean up what they consider a mess. So I have promised myself, (I hope I can do the) to not participate any more in this forum. There is more than one way to skin a cat; and nothing is absolute. But then again when one dimensional thinking is required I find a site such as this to be of little value if it continually degenerates into personal attacks on its own people. That is pure cannibalism!

I don't know of many people who are going to allow anyone to continually kick them it face. How many times can a person say that's OKAY you just kicked my face, that's all?

This thread was NOT intended to be a forum for more random attacks -- even if I agree with your point of view bigmama.

I often agree with you too. I'm just tired of the endless bickering. There are tons of sites that are made just for political argument. This one was made for fun, trivia, and friends.

I think I already suggested an "ignore" button. But, since we don't have one, here's what I do.
If I see a post by someone who routinely irritates the poop out of me, I have trained myself to
slide right by that post to the next poster. There are not many out here that irritate me that much,
but for the few who do, it keeps the irritation factor under control.

I think the CourtTV website has an "ignore poster" feature. It's really kind of fun. When you "ignore"
the post of someone, their name appears, but the post is blank. You can mentally fill in the response yourself
based upon the next poster's comments (which is a big clue to what the "ignored" poster posted).
It's kind of like a fill-in-the-post Word Puzzle game.

Deletion of entire threads have been done a couple of times in the past but one has to be or know the right people. An Ignore button might be a good option but wish you the best of luck getting it as in getting any programing changes here. The last couple of threads I have started that were political-not many-have said they were political in nature so anyone who chose to could skip them. If someone does not want to get "kicked in the Face' they might consider the option of not starting threads that at BEST imply that people who support, watch, or believe certain things are MORONS-tends to get folks angry-just a thought-

Should have added if one does not want to get "kicked in the face" one might want to support ones position by using factual information - without facts it is just one's opinion and anyone disagreeing with that is considered launching a personal attack

I see what you mean, Pep.

I like the ignore feature at IMDB, where you put them on a list and never see them again, as if they don't exist.

Yes, I read it and once again you used the term "bible thumpers". That does not offend me personally but it does many. When I have something politically factual to post I will do that. In the 'light" threads will not try to get them off topic. If you call political news "rants" then sorry not buying like the ludicrous island thing and will continue to post them

I don't think any special button is needed. We can all choose to ignore what we don't want to read. God knows I do it all the time.

I just get pissed when someone else feels the need to make that decision for me by deleting posts that disagree with their beliefs.

Some have a harder time with ignoring than others (me ), and some make themselves very hard to ignore. When you find yourself having to ignore half the board to avoid one or two or four posters, it's not long before there seems no point in coming here.

That's the neat thing about the IMDB ignore list feature, nothing is deleted, it's only removed from your own point of view. It's all still there for those who want to engage in it, and doesn't exist at all for those who are put off by it and don't have to dig through the muck to find something of interest. You don't see a thread at all if the OP is on your list, and you don't see their comments on other threads. Imagine that. Someone like THEDON vanishes with a click and you never even know when the admins squish 'em.

then that board is probably a good place to be for those who cannot help themselves. I could but won't count the actual number of threads started by only one person which seem to appear several times a day no facts included and then is offended by people not agreeing with that view Congrats, Barry, you started a contentious thread and no one could even guess from the title it would be that but seems you excel there- going in through peoples backs.

Linda, the term "bible thumpers" was written prior to Barry asking us inadvertently to not use this thread for rants. Yet, you repeated it. Isn't that keeping contention going?

Barry, rarely. asks anything he does the same things himself that he turns around and complains hints it is "offensive" when folks who disagree with him do it . If he were female, I would ask him to retract his claws

Following the irrelevant and insulting comments posted here against me, I would ask in my defense to read my opening comment on this topic and the next note I posted.
I'm sorry if either of those could be construed as asking for trouble; I did not mean it that way. I realize now that there is almost nothing I could post that wont get that response.

And 'Marsha 17' for you, Linda.

Linda, it's obvious that Barry is not offended by the fact that often offends others. He does not see this and probably never will. So if all just state our views and respect the right of others to do the same we can remain civil, yet defend ourselves and our beliefs as well.

Marsha17 back to you, Barry. If you really want a feature changed here you might want to do the "green bug' thing or go the support ticket route as nothing anyone in this forum can do to change programing. Then no one "dumb" will misunderstand your post and others reply and then this thread would have disappeared rather rapidly as most do that aren't contentious or interesting

Everything. The political boards are NUTS! Try out the board called the Soapbox, I was a member for years, gave me some very thick skin.

Everything. There's a board for each movie, TV show, actor, and a couple free-for-alls called Soapbox and Sandbox.

The heyday of the Soapbox was fantastic until the tweener trolls ruined it.
