Ok I'm sorry but I think that Name The Ten People Dennis Rader Killed is inappropriate. For anyone who doesn't know that is the BTK killer here in Kansas. The author is supposed to be 13. He only recently stood trial for those killings, which included a family, and described in gory detail rather proudly how he killed and mutilated these people. It is not just that I am living in Kansas, the idea that this is considered for a quiz disgusts me.

Hi Hunnykins - This is a difficult issue to address. The various editors did discuss this quiz at some length before deciding to allow it. The basis for the decision was that it fulfilled the various criteria of the SQAG. Beyond making sure that the criteria are met, we do not edit for content.
Having said that, I need to say that I absolutely understand your being upset at the content of the quiz. If you feel strongly about this quiz, or any other one, please send a note to Sploofus. Quizzes do get removed if there are several complaints about them.

I have not yet taken the quiz (and I probably woould not anyway, since I don't know much about Rader beyond what I have read/seen in the news). I am sorry the quiz was so offensive... but there are many books on various serial killers, on 9-11, on a great many number of distasteful subjects. I would not like to see Sploofus become a site that censors because some people might be offended or sensitive. I think the best way to deal with quizzes you find offensive is to write the author and tell him/her (in a civil manner, of course LOL). As mentioned above you could report the quiz to the site admin.

Having read the Quiz Guidelines, it seems pretty fair that quizzes should get passed if they meet those guidelines. If the editors began to edit quiz content, several of my quizzes might not have gone through (some people find Pulp Fiction horribly offensive, and I know that Beavis and Butthead is a sore subject for many ). I guess what I'm saying is that censorship is a slippery slope...

And while I know little of Dennis Rader, I have enjoyed the serial killer quizzes on Ted Bundy, David Berkowitz, etc.

I understand about serial killers and I have no problem with all that. The problem I have with this is that he only stood trial in 2005 and during that time told the families in detail how he murdered their children. The events happened a couple decades ago but the trial in the last year made everything quite fresh. Bundy and all those people were tried years ago. Had the trial and sentencing not been a fairly recent event there is no way a 13 year old would know who the BTK killer is.

One final thing and then I'm letting this go. Sploofus rule NUmber ONE says you must be 18 to play. Now since there's a kids section obviously people let their kids play on their accounts, no big. But the author states in his profile he is 13. SO what's the rule there for? Also, I watch South Park, think it's funny, but am sure some folks find it offensive. SOme of the quizzes here have innuendo type names but are all done very professionally and some are pretty funny. My objection is that this kid could have written about Dennis Rader and his life leading to his arrest and been more interesting and less objectionable, than just listing 10 names of victims. If Rader only killed 6 people no quiz subject I guess. And this is not about censorship it is about good andf decent taste about something so recent. It is not in any way in the same class as Pulp Fiction or Beavis and Butthead or even South Park.
I will chill now and just stop hanging out.

I took the quiz. Other than being a bit sparse for information, I didn't see anything horrific about it. Its in the news.

I do, however, still have objections to minors being allowed to have accounts, especially when the rules say 18 & over. I feel that many of the topics are not appropriate for children plus I think there could be a real liability issue if some adult on here and some underage person start chatting via private message and something bad becomes of it.

I would love to see Sploofus in the news but not because some stalker found his underage victim here and they were allowed to converse freely. I know we have a least one player who is 9 years old!!!!

I feel the site should either be a rated G site or an 18 and over site. Trying to mix the two has a lot of potential for trouble. Personally, I don't really want to chat with 9 year olds.

But that's just me.

Eesus, I agree for the most part. The terms of use are contradictory to the kids' stuff. I wish the Kids' quizzes were on a separate page. But how do we really know that the writer is truly 13? I can put anything I want in my profile... and when I signed up I could have said I was signing in from anywhere, too. That seems to be a tough thing to enforce.

When my kids signed up for MSN Kids, thereby getting a Hotmail account, when I entered their age it automatically demanded an adult email address to verify their age. It also asked for a credit card number which would not be charged, just for secure puposes. I had no problem with that as it limited where they could go and I could block mail I didn't want them to get. It was all
free. Maybe Sploofus could have a section just for kids but that blocks access to anything else once it verifies age. That would also limit those using minor accounts to do puzzles and then come back and have the answers under their adult account, as mentioned in another thread.
