Hi folks, just a curiosity question - I just looked at the leaderboards for WPs this month (which should consist of precisely one puzzle, since at that time it was a few minutes before the start of the second puzzle) and I was surprised to note that at the top half of the board everyone has way more points than I thought possible - up to 10,900!

How does this happen? If you do a puzzle perfectly you get 5,000, plus 1,000 if you're one of the top 5 winners - so after one puzzle surely the highest possible score should be 6,000?!

Is there some sort of bonus or something else you can get?

My curiosity is killing me!!

Ta muchly

I believe the score for the last puzzle of the month isn't added til after 8 a.m. on the first of the next month....not sure, I've been wrong before. oogie

I'm not sure also, but I think it depends on what time you do the last puzzle.
If you did the last puzzle of April before midnight then the points would be added to your April score.....if you did it after midnight the points would go towards your May score.

Is that right?

At 8:05 PM there have been two puzzles that ended on this day.

I believe that you get your 5000 (minus 100 per wrong guess), at the time you finish the puzzle, but bonus points for 'place' are awarded after the puzzle ends.

I did my April 30 8:00pm EDT WP on May 1st, before 8am, and it showed up in my May score, so some could have around 10,000 points shortly after 8:00 am on May 1st if they did it that way, too.

Hi Suzer - yes but if you'd read my post you'd have seen that I stated at that time it was a few minutes *before* that one ended!

It shouldn't have been possible to have more than one score on there at that time!

If you did the Sunday, April 30th 8-pm WP
(1) after 12:01 am Monday, May 1st
(2) but before 7:59 am Monday May 1st
you get your points credited on May 1st.

It is no mystery.

Digs got it right...

Wed, 3rd May '06 1:16 PM get your 5,000 points (less 100 for each wrong letter) immediately when you finish the puzzle. It's just bonus points that are added later.
So if you did your last April puzzle AFTER MIDNIGHT it would be in your May score and if you did the first May puzzle at, say 2pm, you could end up showing a possible 11,000 before 8pm.

Beryl: I am in Arizona, USA, and the on Sploofus is U.S. eastern time. So, don't know how you have to adjust to reckon the WP times. Do you in the UK do daylight savings times? Just curious...

Missashlee....Don't mean to answer for Beryl, but I used to live in England and I know they are 5 hours ahead of US Eastern Time.
So I guess their puzzle times are 1am and 1pm.
I live in Ontario Canada now which is the same as US Eastern Time.
What about Arizona, are you a few hours behind?

Digs: In Arizona, we do not wish to save daylight in the summer...too hot! So, now, we are 3 hours earlier than Sploof time. Just like (gasp!) California...
