WHAT DO YOU DO WHILE WAITING FOR SPLOOFUS TO RELOAD?

I've decided that since it is taking several minutes to wait for screens to reload while I'm navigating through Sploofus, that I should use the time productively.

Between the hang time from reading a post on Salty Dog to starting this thread, I was able to re-grout my bathroom shower.

I'm thinking about trying out a new hobby while this post tries to upload. Suggestions?

(Let's see how far I can get in creating a grocery list while this uploads...)

Actually, about 6pm CDT, I noticed the pages started loading more quickly.

I don't know why. I did look in Hotwire and saw that Sploofus will be offline awhile tonight for maintenance to fix problems. Did anyone else notice anything loading more quickly within the past few minutes?

I usually sploooooooooofus in between my yardwork and honey-do jobs (I'm a retired teacher, my wife's a retired principal - she outranks me), so if the screen stays immobile for a while, I fall asleep. What's weird is when I fall asleep with my finger on the enter key, I can do several puzzles with lousy scores but great times.

I thought I would try a few tournament quizes after taking a break. First one I tried, I knew the answers fast enough that I would have normally finished in less than 60 seconds. My time was something like 250 seconds. On the second one, I just gave up after staring at a frozen screen for about 5 minutes, forfeiting my chance to do well on that quiz. Not that any one cares about the Tournament leaders, but it's pretty hard to take those scores seriously any more.

Can you imagine what newbies think of Sploofus when they try the site for the first time? Do you ever wonder whether the only folks still playing are the hopelessly addicted?

EITHER clear your computer of all the

Have you taken a lot of quizzes lately? That's where I have the most trouble. But not always. Sometimes, its any part of the site. And Justin has acknowledged the problem, so its not just individual people's computers.

When things are slow here, I always check other sites to see if it's Sploofus, my computer, or my service.

It's Sploofus. And as Lodi said, Justin knows and has acknowledged it before. He often puts a note in Hotwire when he's taking the site offline to work on correcting problems. That's the first place to check.

I clear my cache once a day, use the latest version of Firefox, defrag often, delete temporary files, clean disk and run spyware scans and other maintenance. Sploofus is even slower and taking the pages longer to load than when Justin fixed it the last time. I haven't been getting any error messages like in the past or usually not a connection interrupted like the last time, but there is definitely a big problem. I have no problem with pages loading on other sites. I have clicked on to do a quiz, and then back out due to just sitting there and nothing happening.

By the way, where is Justin? A few weeks ago, he said he was definitely back to stay, and talking about things he was going to do to the site, and really sounding positive, and now he's gone again and we're left in limbo. I've been a member over three years, and my patience is running out on the slow loading pages. I think I'm finally losing my addiction or at least it isn't as strong as it was.

It's been useless all weekend, and it's no better this morning. To make matters worse i get a Kerplunk returned because "Jason insists" a song title must be within quotation marks, despite the fact i've written dozens just like this one. I put it in quotation marks, and then wait a couple of minutes for the update to take, then i have to refresh a blank screen. I get the distinct impression somebody is taking the ...........oh no, that would be censored wouldn't it ?
We are told swear words etc are censored to keep the site "family friendly". Apparently it's OK to tell the family that it's alright to take the money and run. It's no coincidnece that this problem has got worse and worse since Jason ran his "summer sale", it must have worked well.

What a load! I just took some Kerblunks where no song titles were in quotation marks. Inconsistency sucks.

Oh, and it took me about 5 minutes to get from start to finish in my last kerblunk. I folded laundry, chatted online, put laundry away, and got half way through a popcicle.

Lame.

Good points above about "addiction." That's a term I've often used to explain my mysterious desire to play various Sploofus games despite adverse conditions. I didn't think I could break that addiction for a long time, but now I've finally stopped all quizes and Kerblunks, and have very little interest in returning. (I'm now down to the Word Puzzles and questions of the day.) Turns out the best cure for the Sploofus addiction is Sploofus itself!

For me, the thread's title "WHAT DO YOU DO WHILE WAITING FOR SPLOOFUS TO RELOAD?" is no longer applicable. The more accurate question is "WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN NOT BOTHERING TO LOG ON TO SPLOOFUS MUCH ANYMORE?"

I enjoy my family, read, write, travel, listen to music, go to movies, and work for the money to pay for the preceding.

CLEVER: That's not cool. I used to write all songs in quotation marks as I was told to use them by the editors. Then was told it was not necessary. Hard to know what to do and most the time the errors are not caught by editors but by the Sploofus players themselves. And yes, where is Justin after his endearing remarks????????

I 'x' out each day on the calendar marking the time until my subscription expires next May. In the interim, I'm going to get as much of my $$$ as I can.

We are customers, we have paid for a product that isn't delivering what was promised. Unfortunately we'll never get a refund, but when our subscriptions run out, time to reconsider. Money talks.

It's too bad, this is a neat place, but not as neat as it once was.
