AUSTRALIA WAITS AND PRAYS......

A week ago today, there was an earth tremor in a little town called Beaconsfield in Tasmania, Australia.

It caused a mine to cave in, with men working almost a kilometre (about 900 yards)below the surface.
Frantic attempts at rescue were made, but it was difficult to access the caved-in area.

Three days later, one man was found dead.......but FIVE days later, it was found that two men are still alive, and communicating with rescuers on the surface!

Attempts are being made now to bore a parallel tunnel to get them out, but it will be a couple more days yet before they can be brought to the surface. The men are being sent food and drinks via a PVC pipe.

We watch and wait for the glorious moment when they are reunited with their families!!
the whole of this tiny town will be in party-mode!!

See today's bulletin story here:~

Please let this one have a happier ending than what happened here in the State to those poor men and their families.

Keep us apprised of any new developments.

Day Ten:~

The rescue tunnel is more than halfway to the men now. The drilling has had to be slow because of the instability of the rock due to the previous tremor.
The 8.1 earthquake at Tonga this morning caused some alarm in case the seismic waves caused another cave-in..however, all is well on that front.

The men have been getting food and drinks thru a pipe, and now have flashlights and an iPod!! Their spirits are high despite their situation.

One of the men has asked about his penalty rates and overtime (?!)
~~No doubt they will be approached to sell their stories to magazines and TV for megabucks??

It is hoped that the men will be home safe and well with their families by the weekend. It is expected that they will have to go to hospital for checkups first though.

I am sure that all concerned would be grateful for your prayers and wishes for their safety: I thank you all on their behalf.

I should read more. I just noticed this thread. Glad to hear the miners are keeping their spirits up while they wait. Hope to hear soon that they've made it out.

Just read a story in the local paper that the two guys are out and safe. I hope they didn't jump the gun like the guys in W. Virginia.

Australia rejoices!!!

The men walked out about ten minutes ago, after having being extricated from their cage about an hour and a half ago. The had been medically checked and showered below ground first.

Oh, the joyous emotion here....they are hugs and tear and cheers among the crowd in the chilly pre-dawn.

Thank you God, for restoring these men to their loved ones!

One of the local breweries has just donated a pallet of beer to the local pub..celebrations all round, what a wonderful result!
Everybody is in party-mode!

One of the guys is already discharged from hospital...they had been in there being checked for bloodclots/deep vein thrombosis...and anything else the medicos thought was necessary.

~~Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers!!

I have heard the guys are donating quite a bit of the money to the widow of the miner who was killed, and other folks in need.
