I noticed Al wasn't around much yesterday, but it is vacation time so I didn't worry. But just got this from him this morning:

"J; I'll be out of action it appears. I will need to have eye surgery [doing it today in Baltimore] ; I have a detached retina. I don't know if I'll be able to use the computer for a few days, so let everyone know why I'm missing."

So even though Al didn't request prayer, I'll certainly be praying for him through the surgery and recovery, for God to guide the doctor's work, and for Al's recovery to be as painless, complete, and quick as possible.

We all ya, Al. Get well - and hopefully soon you'll be able to read this by your own bad, happy self with 2 good eyes!

As a nurse, I know for a fact that placing Peppermint Patties on your eyes after eye surgery cures any pain.

Take care Al.

Prayers, positive thoughts and peppermint dreams heading your way, Al!

My father and uncle both had detached retinas. The sooner it's handled, the better. Time is definitely of the essence, and immediate action is required. So glad you're seeing about it right now in a timely way! Please keep us posted. God bless!

Al, do exactly what the doctor says. I know from my wife's experience that the surgical repair can be very fragile, and if you don't let it heal optimally, permanent sight loss can occur. It may be uncomfortable as heck for the next few weeks, but roll with it, don't try to work, and have your friends bring you some good audiobooks and the like.

Janice, please pass this along to him in case he can't read it.

Update - just received this from Al:

"quick note:

The procedure went well. Had follow up doctor visit today. So far - so good! Must keep my head positioned about a 50 degree angle to speed up the recovery.
Couch potato for sure. Tell everyone I appreciate the salty dog thread."

(I bet he's getting so spoiled by his family that we'll hafta put him back in his place quickly when he returns! )

Marsha - I emailed Al with your request for an update (he was ignoring MY request for info - haha)

He wrote back while ago:

"This website article is very helpful to understand what is the course of therapy. I have a big gas bubble in my eye doing the work!

So, I'm on the road to recovery. Had follow up visit today- seems to be progressing well. For now, they want me to position my head at a 50 degree angle------- 55 minutes per hour [that's not easy- Boring !]. Good news, the time frame will be reduced later this week.
Tell everyone I'm grateful for their care and concern.
Well, my five minutes is up. Take care! "
