This 'Army Day' (what about the RAF & Navy etc.?) is a nothing event so far in the UK.
They've just apparently changed the name from "Veterans' Day", and that was also a recently contrived and virtually unknown event, too.
I'm as patriotic a Brit as you'll find, and have some military background.
But, as in the past, our Remembrance Day has not only covered 'remembrance' but also all current forces.
I partake in Remembrance Day fully, often via at least three different events, and that has enormous significance throughout the nation.
We don't need these new funnies and, so far, not many even know they exist.

Whoops!
Now see it's "Armed Forces Day".
Sorry!
See how little we know about it here!

I agree! I bet anyone in the military doesn't care what you call it or what day you honor them - just so we remember them, keep them in our prayers - and maybe do some extra things for their families here so they don't worry so much on two fronts.

See what I said.
We already have our Remembrance Day.
And those of us more closely involved are active week by week currently.

I wonder if we'll ever get a day for for the innocent civilians that are blown to bits by these "heroes" ?

Perhaps someone Jewish could/would respond to you, Dave. Believe there is a day marking the Holocaust at least in some parts of the world.

Not too many Jews in Iraq and Afghanistan though, and way too many in Palestine. I helped organise a protest rally at the Chatham "lets celebrate blowing up innocent people" day. It didn't go down too well with the police and squaddies, but it wasn't meant to. We received a lot of support the public though, the vast majority of whom would rather see our own country sorted out before we told others how to live.
