WARNING POLITICAL!

Well not really; I'd never do that.

Garrybl

MediaFlashNet June 30 0705 Peggy Pell, Washington DC: The White House in its
morning look-ahead announced that today at 3 pm Czar-Czar Binks will be named
Czar Czar for the Obama Administration. As with other Czars and Staffers, he
will not have an office, because there are not enough real offices. Mr. Binks
will roam the White House grounds with his Blackberry trying to stay dry if it
rains. His special assistant will be Bob Bohica, a longtime political
operative.

Czar-Czar travels to Washington, DC to report as Czar Czar, guided by two guys
with pony tails:

Ruth Madoff has signed a book contract for $11 million for a tell-all book
about Life with Bernie, with the working title, "I Never Knew!" Paramount has
purchased film rights for $22 million, with Ralph Fiennes to play Bernie and
Dolly Parton as Ruth.

End of Report

Brian Williams reports from the lawn that Czar Czar has forwarded his budget of 2 trillion to watch the other czars and arrange shovel ready underground parking at the East Wing for Her Majesty, Michelle. Republicans call for a special council to investigate cost over runs and Nancy Pelosi asks for a private Air Bus to survey the parking lot.

First of all, Monarchy doesn’t exist in America. The last time we had a Monarchy was prior to the American Revolution. The next thing is, the Right Wing Ding facet of the Republic Party should be spending more time and energy on not being obstructionist, using tax dollars on issues that help Americans like health care, manufacturing, and other jobs, cap and trade, and fewer sex odysseys on the tax payers dime; just to name a few things.

I apologize for creating a thread that could be hijacked; it was meant as a joke.

Jeez...I've stayed away from Salty Dawg for a week just to avoid reading personal attacks of other Sploofusers. Here we had a really cute Chat going and yet it starts again. AAAAAgh. Enough spiteful vile attacks please, and you know who you are. Please keep them in your own c**ppy chats so I can avoid them totally.

So sad.... It never ends. Salty Dog used to be a place with lots of articulate, well thought out posts with equally dissenting posts by folks who came here to relax and have fun. I looked forward to reading posts from folks who were smart, funny, wise cracking and yeah, even a little risque. Now an opinion is often met with personal attacks by people who apparently can't make an intelligent argument otherwise. This place has rapidly become populated with angry folks just looking for a verbal fight. And consequently the people who made this a most pleasant place have stopped posting. Maybe all future insulting or abrasive posts should just be met with "crickets" by others.

But - to be very very honest, remember in the old days, Smaug used to hijack threads all the time with sexual innuendo - and nobody ever complained.

So it's the topic that bothers people, not the hijacking per se.

And there are 20,000 more people here than then.

And it's a very different country we're living in, with very different stresses and pressures and influences that are affecting everyone in a very different way from back then.

I started in Sept. of 05. It was fun. We laughed every night. Justin was usually here with us, in the shouts. Things were fixed almost immediately. Recommendations were gladly received and the site morphed to the preference of the members. And we weren't so fraught with knobs.

I have a pretty good pile of stuff I want to read this summer.
For work and for pleasure.

The first line of the ellis book is: "i opened my eyes to see the rat
p... in my coffee mug." It doesn't improve much from there.

I'm working on The Unfolding of Language. It's a tough slog.

Next up may be Can I keep My Jersey. Written by a fellow
Iowa State who bounced around the NBA for about 10 years.
He wrote a column for espn.com that was hilarious.

Also want to get to The Omnivore's Dilemma, but that's down a
ways.

So back to the knob comment. Back when Justin was on here every day, there was some back biting, but it wasn't as common. People just seemed more congenial. The site was growing, Justin was open to suggestions, and he was one of us. We would all talk & laugh in the shouts every night. Other than a few jerks, the place was like Cheers. Seriously. If something needed fixed, he was on it. Because our input was important, instead of feeling like any old website, it truly felt like a community of friends.

As the site grew, and Justin started withdrawing, things changed. Many more people joined and with the increase in members, also came an increase of the jerks. Tempers really started to rise about the time we kept getting promised new things and then they would never happen, and there were no responses to anything. 2.0 finally came about, after a year or so, but it lacked some of the features that fostered the community feel, although it added some really impressive features.

At this point, many of the newer members don't even know who Justin is. To most of them, he is just a blue line in the threads that appears occasionally, talking about updates, or posting a random survey. Many people no longer care about the fun community part of sploofus, and feel quite comfortable ripping their neighbor to shreds. Gone is the community mural, the group chats in the shouts, the guess the lyrics at night, the conventions. Now we have political hate threads and nannies who pull a thread because it has the word "damn" in it. (I wish those people had been in the shouts the night Justin was trying a new cuss word blocker. That didn't work, I might add. I swear I almost peed my pants that night because I was laughing to hard and if you got up to use the bathroom, you were surely going to miss something). So some of the newer people who never got to experience the community of yesterday, don't really care if they attack someone in the threads, so long as they don't say a cuss word.

I don't really know where I was going with this. I've fallen asleep once, and found myself distracted with watching Jon Stewart and digging through the freezer looking for a blue popcicle.

Justin, Smaug, Jeremy - and those are just the ones that come to mind.

That affects a lot of lightheartedness. It makes people reevaluate where they put their energies or focus.

It changes perspective, priorities....

Or it just plain changes things.

It certainly steals a lot of one's joy.

Trust me I am NOT paranoid. but am more than sure some of you are referencing me when you mention Fox. Sploofus changed with Justin's prolonged abssence -no one in charge who could do anything as to programing- and the nonstop Bush-Bashing and the neverendending campaign thread. Found it interesting that one of the most argent viscious posters on that thread which was finally deleted
"Scolded " me in another thread yesterday for regurgitating someone's posts but no "Scold" for the person who constantly attacks me and had just finished "regurgitating" my prior thread topics-perhaps because those two are aligned politically. I warn people when my posts are political and don't pass them pff as a "joke; even though I believe many of the thimgs happening in DC are just that. I try to stick to attacking the subject but not always succcessful when the attacker gets personal about me. You can bet the political threads will continue and some get ire up simply by the title. When and I will somethimes start and most often participate will try to keep my comments within that post not make "side" remarks in another nonpolitical thread because I don't like the person from the "LAST PICTURE" I too miss Smaug pre campaign Sploofus- Linda

Linda, don't worry too much about watching or referencing Fox news. You are in great company. Fox is bowing its head in shame all the way to the bank. Viewership of Fox News is double its closest competition and triple MSNBC.

As the administration members like to say - Fox News won. Consistently. In record numbers.

Fox News only looks to be skewed to the right because it is compared to the extreme left leaning bias of MSNBC and not as extreme but clearly left leaning bias of CNN, as would anything not skewed so far to the left.

My greatest surprise about Fox News is that it truly is not liberal since Fox TV and motion picture enterprises usually are so.

But Fox news is as valid a news source as any other on TV or radio, and it has surely found its audiences.
