SHOWDOWN SYSTEM

As it is now, we can only start one showdown within a 24 hour period. This is because people were unloading all their showdown tokens on inactive users and getting lots of points. I think that is a great idea, but it should be lifted if the showdown is answered before the 24 hour period is up. Obviously, if the person responds to the showdown challenge, the player is active. What do you all think about it?

It drives me insane that people cheat here. It's like cheating at solitaire. What do you get out of it exactly? I'm with you on lifting the ban.

You got my vote too....I accepted a showdown challenge and all I got was a little message saying unacceptable...I never did find out if I won or not....

Well Vickie, I'm not quite sure why that happened to you. I once had 4 challenges issued to me by the same person in the same day. All 4 questions were different and they all allowed me to answer them one right after the other. It was strange.

Count me in, sounds good to lift the ban, or at least enforce it more reasonably.

I'm sorry to say this but I have always been disappointed with the showdown system and why some people cheat is beyond me.

I don't know why people cheat either. I think it takes more energy and time to cheat that it does if you play honestly.

I agree.
Having said that I am a bit of a 'chicken' and only do the showdowns about once a month, and then it is only if I am feeling pretty brave :D

I'm not sure how people are supposedly cheating on showdowns, because mine have always been against people I don't know...but I noticed that I have to wait at least 24 hours AFTER my challenge has expired to see any results. (This is after waiting however many hours I have to wait)...If they haven't answered, then why do I have to keep waiting for the results?

I'm sorry but I fail to see how anyone could cheat at a showdown!

Okay let me try to explain the whole cheating on showdowns thing. A few months ago, Sploofusers were able to stage as many showdowns as they wanted (as long as they had a token). One right after the other. For example, they would stage like 5 showdowns with a player that obviously hadn't signed into their Sploofus account for days. After waiting out the full week a showdown lasts, the challenger would get all the points from the 5 showdowns because the opponent didn't respond to the showdown. Some would say doing that is just using Sploofus to their advantage, but most would say that it is cheating. Anyway, Sploofus realized what was happening and that's why they decided to put a 24 hour waiting period on using one showdown token to the next. I hope I explained that okay.

I'd willingly convert ALL my showdown tokens into wager tokens. I don't like showdowns at all. I'd like it to be a gold-member option - which would you rather get wager tokens or showdown tokens and gold members get to choose. That way, those that are brave can challenge away and the rest of us chickens can stick to challenging ourselves LOL.

I am with mskillian. I can pick the category when I chose to make a wager. In showdowns, I risk points and the other person risks nothing. I may get a category I don't like and it may be their favorite. I must prefer wagers to showdowns.

I hear you! I'll wager against myself any day. The guys in front of me, and behind me for that matter, are smart and FAST. I'd never consider challenging them. I'd love to have wager tokens in place of my oodles of showdown tokens.

I'm with you guys on this one. Every now and then I'll use the computer at work, but for the most part, I'm using my MSNTV and that doesn't cut it with showdowns. Even if I know the answer, my time sux royally. So, I lose most of the challenges. With wager tokens, it doesn't matter about time...as long as it's less than 30 seconds. And like you all said, I can choose the category I want for wagers. That is a good idea for gold members to be able to choose because lately, I haven't really seen the incentive of having a gold membership. A couple of months ago, I would have renewed in a heartbeat, but now I'm not so sure. I still have until Jan 2006 so maybe things will change and there will be a REAL reason to keep my membership.

I think that is a great idea. Let the gold members choose either a showdown or a wager token. I would much rather have the wager tokens to play with.

I agree, let the gold members choose. I have 27 showdown tokens and only 1 wager token. I dislike showdowns and prefer not to use them.

I much prefer a showdown to a wager, wagers have crippled me in the past. Showdowns arent as sore on the all time jackpoint points. Well im also to blame for always gambling the maxium I can on a wager.

I just cant resist the thought of winning 250000 points for answering one question!!!

OK Bravestarr, I have 65 Showdowns which I'll happily trade for your Wagers, two for one!

ha ha, i would be happy to if i had any wager tokens.

That is quite a novel idea surryman. It would be great to have a "trading" forum where people could swap unwanted showdown tokens with wager tokens!

Maybe sploofus will put it to a poll?

I think Sploofus needs to make it impossible to stage a showdown against an Inactive player!
