Any fun plans for the fourth?

A few friends and I are headed to the beach. My friend has a one year old that I just adore, it will be her first real exposure to fireworks. I'm really looking forward to it. I grew up going to the beach all of the time, but living out of state haven't been in almost seven years. Anyone else have any exciting plans they are looking forward to?

We were either going to go up to the lake and go boating, or take the boat down to the river. But my kids went to the pool yesterday and my son decided not to put on sunblock. He's now crispy red and on the verge of blistering, so he can't go anywhere out in the sun. So I'm scraping the house so I can paint it. Tomorrow night, there will be live bands outside, and fireworks. We may go to that. We'll see. I bought about $100 worth of fireworks for just us. Maybe we'll stay home and just do those. I'm pretty excited about some mortars called Sky Ink. The box indicates that its a "spectacular extravaganza."

I'm just happy to have the day off. With budget cuts and layoffs, many of us have taken on extra work and its been pretty intense.

Lodi: "I'm just happy to have the day off. With budget cuts and layoffs, many of us have taken on extra work and its been pretty intense". Sounds like my job, so depressing.

Leaston: I so want to barbecue, it's a tradition. If nothing else I'll have to order some BBQ ribs at one of the restaurants at the beach, and skip the clam chowder (shhh, I'm at the beach, don't tell.)

My first choice for beaches sounds like it's going to be overrun by drunk teens this year. Not really my scene.

Koota/Bleepy/Aquamar/any other Oregonians: If you log on today, can you remind what there is to do at Newport? I haven't been in so long, lol. I kind of want to hit up the Aquarium or Ripley's Believe it or Not, for the kiddo (yeah right ) Too bad Keiko isn't there anymore, everytime I went the whale was not available for viewing. Bad luck I guess. I'm so behind, I just found out that the whale died!! I pictured him living in the ocean happily swimming with other whales. I wonder if his release to the wild hastened his demise?? Wiki doesn't say.

I did my major Fourth of July celebrating years ago.

Fifty years ago tomorrow (July 4) my oldest son, Bryan, was born. Three years and three hours later, my second son, Bruce, was born. They shared that birthday with their great-aunt.

Then in 1988 on July 4 my granddaughter, Hillary, was born (Bryan's daughter).

Each year on their birthdays I call my sons and say "Just wanted you to know that I'm feeling better today than I did --- (however many) years ago today!"

For quite a few years Bryan and Bruce thought the fireworks were in celebration of their birthdays.

What I'm not figuring out is how someone as young as I am can have a son who is 50!

Grilled chicken, beer, fly the flag, and a soft chair. yesterday I changed a bad light fixture on an upstairs ceiling and when I came down the stepladder I thought I was on the bottom rung. I wasn't,,and now I have a gimpy (Oh, can I say that?) hip so the fourth will be a slow motion event.

My son grilling out and hand churning homemade ice cream at the little ranch. Then to my house to watch fireworks out over the lake. The most gorgeous flag in the world flying all over the place (yes, I heartily admit to being highly prejudiced toward our flag!)

It's funny - as a teenager, my son LOVED showing off his muscles to my dad, showing the old man how easily he could turn the crank on that large White Mountain freezer till it just wouldn't turn any more. So when it was time to gift my son and his family with one, they didn't want an electric like mom uses. Had to be the tough kind like grandpa used.

The weather is forecast to be 103 degrees for the 4th. Devon will be playing outside with the hose and water in his little pool as long as he's not too uncomfortable. And he'll want to be outside MUCH more than Mom, Dad, or Grammy will want to in that kind of heat. But then again, my son and I survived the summer of 1980, when it was over 100 degrees every day for a month. It was 112 in Fort Worth. It was 124 degrees in Granbury, to the SW of Fort Worth, where we lived.

(Do you remember being a kid and thinking adults were totally weird because they let a little heat and humidity bother them?)

I never, ever thought about heat or humidity as a kid. It was supposed to be hot. It was summer! I do however remember walking across blacktop, barefooted, and burning the sh#t out of my feet. We didn't care though...

The 4th is my dad's birthday. For the past 10 or 12 years, I've been hosting a big old fashioned weiner roast (over an open fire) in my backyard in his honor. Dad loves the whole shebang. Afterward, we go to the local cemetary to watch the fireworks which are shot off from the park on the next hilltop, so the view from the cemetary is the best in town.

We'll be spending part of today at my brother's campground site. At least 4 F's- food; fishing; fireworks and family.

[P.S.--I hope to resume playing Sploofus games soon.]

Happy Fourth of July everyone!

Happy 4th! Gonna rain here all day. Glad we had our fireworks last night.
Was going to go downtown to watch the parade, but happy here watching the Williams sisters and doing laundry.
Steaks and corn on the cob are excellent if made inside or out!

Gonna lay on our butts and watch TV and recover from the 3rd.

Sausage and egg Croissandwiches for breakfast to build up race mojo (Tony is carrying Burger King sponsorship tonight- gorgeous car). Watching the girls play at Wimbledon now.

Maybe take-out later unless John fires the grill.

We saw awesome fireworks at the track last night so we'll give the local ones a miss this year.

Great day to everyone!

My son and I will be jetting our way from Phoenix to Seattle. I wish we would arrive late enough to see fireworks form the air (it's so weird to see them BELOW you!) but alas, Seattle doesn't get dark til 10 PM!

And they are having a heat wave (in the high 80's) but we Phoenicians will be wearing our sweaters as we hang with my BFFs family.

Happy Birthday to the United States of America!

We're hanging out at the house where it's cool, having a bar-b-que, kids shooting off their fireworks, and tonight we can see the local fireworks from our yard which is what we'll probably do instead of driving to the park.

Hope all of Sploofus Island has a great "Fourth of July"!

Not laughing here - I'd LOVE to go to the American Idol concert with my daughter. Or your daughter - anybody's daughter.

No special plans, just a typical Saturday hanging with my family, doing some household chores, maybe watching a movie. Alas, their will be no fireworks as we live in a mountain desert climate, and due to the risk for wild fires, the private use of fireworks is against the law. At least I can create my own on line.

And no laughing on my part either, Bleepy. My mother, a family friend and myself are driving to Oakland next weekend for American Idols Live.

Well...When you live with two teens and their music snobbery American Idol does not work. I ALWAYS watched, though. My daughter concented to go when she thought Adam was interesting. Now she's past that and griping! We'll go out to dinner and have fun anyway!!
