I'm not sure if you will be able to link to this. It's an article in a on-line newspaper I get for free, called The Tyee. Much of the news is about BC & Canada but some articles have an international slant. Many environmental articles that might interest you. Warning: tends to be Left Wing

I found this one on celebrity fascinating.

Who's Jon and Kate?

I don't think it has to do as much with connecting to other people as it does having grown up with someone and feeling their loss, as if a friend. It was that way with Presley, Lennon, Garcia....the list goes on.

It's not really about them dying, but what place they fill in our lives.

Good one, Randy, thanks, I like your website!

The article reminded me of something said by Ted Koppel at the height of Vanna White's celebrity. Don't remember the exact words but the gist was that in trying to fathom her popularity in light if her stunning lack of accomplishment, he'd decided that she was an empty vessel, filled up by each person with their individual fantasy of who she was, so she could be anybody, and everybody, more of a suggestion than a personality in a public sense.

Stuck with me.

I'm putting "The Tyee" in my favorites. Thanks Cougar.
