I see you are starting to take a fairly active role--the first time I've seen this since I've been peaking at the Salty Dog (for about a year I think). You recently stated you would take a more action role in cleaning up the Salty Dog, and today you left messages about a picture matching contest and improvements to groups. That's great, and I'm sure a lot of folks are very happy.

However, I (and assume others) would appreciate some discussion about your reluctance to address many of the bugs that still hang around Sploofus. Some are just simple things, like updating the explanations of the maximum scores for wager and showdown tokens. There are obviously others, and I really don't need to list them here--many folks have taken the time to write out bug reports and those are still are out there. I know I've submitted a few, and have never heard why they've never been addressed.

I'm just curious--do you ever look through the bugs to see what can be fixed? I know if you've stated that you don't have the resources to hire assistance. But I'm wonder whether folks would appreciate more attention to those many bugs than some of the new activities you have mentioned. There have been frequent conversations about tweaking scoring in some of the games, but you never seem to respond to those. Have you ever considered polling your paying customers to determine how your limited time should be prioritized?

Note to the many active and enthusiastic folks who post to the Salty Dog:

I'm hoping this response comes directly from Justin. I know a lot of you support Justin and that's great, but this isn't intended to be a thread to talk amongst ourselves about all of this (with folks taking sides and all)--at least until Justin can kindly respond himself, and give us an idea on his thoughts. If he doesn't answer, then I really don't think a debate among us is worth the time.

I sent in many bug/error reports and never heard a word. Would like to know the resolution of them. Why is the error report provided and then never addressed. Takes time to fill the report. I'm curious also.

Perhaps we could compile a list of the bugs needing fixing and put them all in one post. Would have to keep it tidy and not duplicate others' input. That way Justin won't have to go back through all the support tickets. Probably not a good idea to gather them up in the Salty Dog, maybe through messaging? What say ye?

Believe if you read Dave's post carefully you will see he did not want anyone to respond other than Justin

Oh, I mis-read that -- of course, I do understand. Thanks, Linda. Sorry.

No problem, Coleen. In fact, your response helps to bump this message back to the top. I wouldn't want Justin to miss it.

First of all, thank you for your interest in me personally. I hadn't really realized how important my presence was here until I had been gone for some time and then noticed forum posts indicating how much I was missed. Even then, I had been through an extremely rough period in my life and all of my hobbies (Sploofus being the most important one) took a back seat and no matter how I tried I just couldn't seem to find a passion for anything anymore.

I didn't want Sploofus to die though, and so I just trudged along doing whatever was necessary to at least keep the site "on".

In the mean time, I lost my day job and the little bit of revenue generated by Sploofus was going to my attorney (you see, it was a divorce I was going through), and so I got waaaay behind in my payments to the data center that hosts all of our servers. That was when I ran the big 50% off sale which, fortunately, generated enough cash for me to just about get caught up on those financial obligations and keep the lights on here.

Creon once said that "Time heals all things". Well.... he was absolutely right.

Without getting into too many personal details I'll just say that my life is back on track. I've come to terms with my new life and I get to see my kids on a regular basis. My passion for Sploofus has returned with a vengeance. I've also become a happy person again, and am doing things like going to the big observatory down at OSU for star parties, collecting water samples out of ponds and using my microscope, playing my guitar, all of those things. But most relevant and most importantly, I really feel that old feeling of wanting to build and maintain relationships with my Sploofusers. It's literally been over 2 years since I've felt that strong sense of passion for this island. It's a great feeling, and I'm infinitely obliged to our team of editors for keeping this place alive... they simply don't get nearly enough credit for what they have done and continue to do. I'm also obliged to players like you for keeping the faith and continuing to return to our island despite the issues that you refer to above.

Slowly making my return to Sploofus, and being more vocal here on the forums, I wanted some form of game plan. I've requested a short list from all of the editors of things that they would like to see done on their side of the fence to make their jobs easier and more enjoyable. The list is in place and I am beginning to address it.

I am acutely aware of the bugs on this site and how annoying they can be. I will begin to address them one at a time over the coming weeks. But in the mean time I was hoping to show some of my old spirit and stir the pot a little... come up with something new... something small, fun, innovative.

Believe me when I say that getting the kinks worked out from the 2,0 release is at the top of my priority list.

All my best,

Thank you for your response, Justin. I knew things had been tough for you, so it was an encouraging sign when you started to speak up again. Good news to hear you're doing better.

Speaking to the editors sounds like a great idea. They do deserve as much support as possible, especially if you can make their tough job easier. Plus, they'll certainly know about the most serious bugs since they're the ones we end up whining to.

You've certainly raised my optimism. I'm looking forward to further conversations, and maybe, after the bugs are under control, there can be some good discussion about tweaks to scoring in some of the games.

Thanks Justin. Welcome back. It means more than you know.

Justin, man, I'm right there with you. When my marital BS started I didn't have the will to get out of bed. Doc wanted to shove anti-deps in me but that just masks what you are SUPPOSED to be going through.

I think I've had a shorter "mourning" period than you, but I am "on the other side of it" (as people termed it). I have my second divorce mediation in a few hours, we are amicable, and I think we are done, divorced in 30-60 days.

I will have a MUCH better quality of life after divorce, but, tough, she made her bed.

Glad to see you coming around, bud.

Welcome home, Justin. It's time.

Smaug - you sound healthy. I'm glad.

Lodi - you sound cocky. Life as we know it continues on.

Justin......when one door closes God will open another and usually it is SO much better and things become much clearer in the process. You are doing GREAT and Sploofus is the first thing I eagerly log on to in the A.M. and the last at night. Gee whiz....not another addiction. This site is TOO FUN! Thanks for the brainstorm and keep your chin up and persevere. Only the strong survive!

Justin, as a relatively new Sploofuser, it's great to hear from you and to know that you're taking new interest in Sploofus. I'm sorry you've had some horrible times, but I'm glad you've got your zest for life back.

Sorry to hear about the personal troubles you have been having, Justin, but it is wonderful that you have a handle on things and are back in force. You were very missed and none of us would be the same without Sploofus, so it is great that you have your sploofus drive back!!! I will personally be glad to see some of the most annoying bugs worked out and then if you want to add bells and whistles, go for it!! Welcome back!!

Pardon me for being a party pooper.

However, before I take off tomorrow and disappear from Spolofus until the end of July, I do wish to note how little activity is occurring here these days in the wake of last week's censorship (which we might attribute at least partially to Justin's person difficulties of the moment).

The Salty Dog has suffered from the Big Chill.

That's one perspective. I respectfully disagree.

Certainly the lack of attacks counts as a plus for me. I think it may be safe to go back in the water. Thanks, Justin.
