THE BEST , YET OBSCURE MOVIES.

Lately, we have been renting smaller budget movies. My favorite so far has been "Escanaba in da moonlight"

Two fabulous movies that just happen to both be about ballroom dancing!

Strictly Ballroom
and Shall We Dance (the original Japanese version)

An alltime fave of mine that was panned by the critics was: "The Gods Must Be Crazy"...a bunch of years back...I totally LOVED it!
The movie-going public loved it too, and made a cult film outta it.

great movie...but you have to either be a Yooper or a hunter to really understand all of the cliches and inside jokes.

If you mean a guy from Northern MN who believes in his "lucky" hunting pants, vacations in the UP, loves pasties, and knows all the words to "Turdy Point Buck" ... that would be 2x4man. We're adding the movie to our DVD collection shortly!!

And on another note, it seems the quiz I've been thinking of writing based on the movie may be well received!

Does anybody know anything about the other movies with some of the same crew like Postmark Paradise or Super Sucker? After we watched Escanaba... I checked out what else they had done, and found a few interesting titles...including an upcoming one called Frozen Stupid!

My favorite obscure movie is Loose Change, which you can actually watch for free at www.loosechange911.com. Downloading Google Player makes it easier, but if you don't feel like it, just enter and let it stream.

I agree Jedley, Loose Change is excellent. Really makes you think.

Not terribly obscure, but I loved Vera Drake.

Jeff Daniels, who made Escanaba in da Moonlight and many other movies owns the Purple Rose Theater in Chelsea, Michigan. It is no far from me.

Three favorite obscure movies:

Lilja 4-Ever
Chungking Express
King of Masks
