Why would they sleet better tonight, as compared to any other night?

I wish, Smaug. Now we have the "ultra tacky" stuff likes who pays for the people needed to police the event and the freeways being closed etc which paralyzed LA most of the day. Then will dig around in which docter prescribed him what and is it a criminal thing. Don't forget the juiicy fights over the money and children's custody. And don't forget we have to debate endlessly about those who had "questions' about Michael's charater and their racist remarks and whether they should be allowed to remain in office or indeed even the US. I am guessing all iinvolved with Michael or even have opinions about Michael will consume a lot of press for a LONG time. Hopefully a bit of news can be squuezed in before a Governor has another sex crisis or someone resigns tthat peopple either loved or hated and want to talk endlessly why. Then maybe the news will talk about the war in Afghanistan the terrible economy and what the fools are voting on now without reading. Maybe commercial break coverage or a page 57 article will note that the Gitmo guy released is now the leader of a facton of the Taliban. Just not sure as michael was so much bigger than himsrlf BREATHLESS

Sorry for the two posts in a row but really need to mention among the news that has gotten lost amidst Michael coverage is that OJ Simpson is having a Nevada parole hearing on 8/3. :Probably won't hear much more about the Tennessee football player who was shot and killled as the info coming out is not in keeping with the image that many want him to have

Whatever Michael Jackson was, he was made into by his father and his fame. Relentlessly bullied, abused and worked long hours on one hand, and worshiped beyond reason and imprisoned by massive screaming celebrity on the other, what could possibly go wrong, right?

Was he freaky? Undeniably. You try living his life and see how you turn out. Was his life and his personality warped by the incredible pressures of being one of the most famous people in the world since he was practically a baby? Go figure, huh? The guy is dead, and you don't have to like him, but at least don't blame him for his funeral. It wasn't the first time you've seen him being exploited for the enrichment of others, and it surely won't be the last.

I'm not a fan or an apologist, and I've always had my own reservations about the charges made against him, but just like the rest of you, I WASN'T THERE AND I DON'T KNOW. As weird as he was, just maybe he was weird enough to be as childlike and asexual as many have said he was, and all he wanted was the companionship of other children that he never had as a child. I try to hope so.

There are many questions about him that will occupy people for years; I can save my speculations and suspicions for another, less sensitive time. I am mindful of my own feelings when Elvis died; the pain was quite real and personal. There are people here who loved Michael Jackson, people who are hurting and grieving. A little respect would be kind.

Amen, Smokey. For me, it was Jerry Garcia. Amazing depth of sorrow about the death of someone I didn't know, and surprised amusement on the part of some who didn't share my feelings. As you say, respect for those who mourn is only common courtesy.

Nothing inparticular about MJ. Just find it "fascinating" that some can explain things away things like murder, rape, child molestation etc. by using "victim mentality" . Whole groups have and do use this as an excuse for what they do or don't do. As for the press respecting anything-they DON'T

Not talking about explaining anything away, just saying we can be a little less cruel.

I like to buy Mike's in the big plastic bottles, freeze them, and then have Mike's slushies all the way down the river on the float.

I don't understand this thread - is there less chance of slushy precipitation for us parents now that MJ is dead or what? I don't know what to wear.

If anyone is deifying it is this thread, he is dead. Let us not be gauche or cruel. To some he is an icon and to others a freak. The man who never grew up is dead at 50 and we will probably never know the real truth. The truth about the allegations or about the drugs. Never mind that he was acquitted in a court of law. I am with Smoke lets let him rest in peace and move on. I will only remember his music and dancing which is as it should be. Smaug where have you been under a rock somewhere?
