BOMB PARTS SMUGGLED INTO 10 FEDERAL BUILDINGS

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/07/federal.buildings.security/index.html

This is scary. Nice to see how well Homeland Security works.

I am sick at the paragraph on the baby going through the X-ray machine.

This is understandable, since they've posted all their top talent at the airports; ask any traveler

It's not that.

Janet Napolitano is focusing on those returning war veterans who pose such a great terrorist threat.

The people that work there-no personal offense intended towards them-are far less "sophisticated" than any, one who might want to terrorize. They are unionized government workers and very difficult to fire,. The guard that let the baby go through the scannner was roiginally fired but appealed and got his job back on tthe grounds he was not properly trained. In the end whoever handles this-so many czars now-not sure will definitely say the answer is more money to properly train-discouraging...

It shouldn't take any training to know you don't put a baby through an x-ray machine. Stupidity. I know, I know...in a perfect world.

Whether he is guilty of stupidity or being not properly trained, he got his job back-says something about how things are done

In a microwave is a bad idea too. A draw is OK for a few weeks if you can't afford a cot, but it should never be closed while baby is in residence. One should never dangle a baby from a balcony either, especially if you expect to be sainted when you OD.

I thought most of those jobs were being contracted out to security guard rent-a-cop companies these days?

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/federal-eye/2009/07/gao_finds_major_security_flaws.html?hpid=topnews doesn't look like it if the info in this article is accurate as it says the guards are federal employees. Private firm might not be a bad idea though

And why wasn't he trained? Who is responsible for their training? I work in insurance and we have tons of training and CE that we must do.

I'm very sceptical about "terrorists" attacking, i'll tell you why. The supposed terrorists that attacked via London Transport travelled into the city by train, their car had a parking ticket on it. If i was going to blow up a bus i'd sit at the front, and downstairs,,,,,,,,not on the top at the back. If i wanted to kill as many as possible i'd just stand in Victoria or Kings Cross station, why just take out a few on a tube train ? If i really wanted to cause mayhem i'd park a car bomb under Chiswick flyover in the rush hour. None of it makes sense to me.

Good to know. Lots of rent-a-cop security people here. Only government building I've been in lately was city and they have the name of a security guard company on their shoulders. I'll have to notice when I go down to the Social Security building.

Hard to figure out who is responsible for anything these days-skill in finger pointing is a survival must. The days of Truman and his sign "The Buck Stops Here" still sounds good but not practiced as long as you are a good "pointer'

That is why it is especially important to be hip and slick the pointing thing

I didn't even mention "the towers", but it proves that scare tactics work well. I don't pretend to have all the answers, but i do have a hell of a lot of questions. I am also convinced that a passenger jet did not hit the Pentagon. Back to London though, you don't address any of my points. When you do i will address yours further, if that is what you wish.

I was being sarcastic ... airport security personnel aren't well trained, they don't know how to deal with obvious exceptions. These are Homeland Security personnel who were hired in a frenzy after 9/11. My friend was flying to Vietnam and has to eat frequently, so I packed him several ham and cheese sandwiches. Security confiscated them. I checked the contraband list -- nope, not there. Airplane food was lousy, and they would not give him seconds.

What a refreshingly honest comment, thank you. I'm no great patriot, but i do love London, and as an atheist i am no great fan of islam. The profiles of the alleged bombers is disturbing, the parking ticket is too. Much was made of "dummy runs", but frankly killing people in London is far easier than this. I grew up with the IRA bombing my city, i like to think i have a "nose" for these things. We Brit's don't scare easily, as a nation we know about being bombed, and the London bombings failed to have the desired effect.
