HOW TO ID COVERT COP CARS

http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/wayoflife/07/08/aa.covert.cop.cars/index.html

I am not a leadfoot, but I do occasionally get up there on the turnpike. According to this I may end up in a wreck just trying to look out for all the different models of cars they have.

What would identifying one gain you? If you see one while you're speeding, it's probably too late

I was more amused with how many different kinds of car there are, but I have avoided many tickets by spotting them before they spot me.

Yes, many people spend a lot of time trying to find a way around a law instead of obeying it which seems the simple route- not condemning-been there a few times myself :0

And I've gotten a couple by not spotting them. Behave yourself.

My Monte Carlo came very close to getting me in trouble many times, not so much with the truck though it hauls. I am a very careful driver and have not had a ticket in 12+ years, though there are times when I should have. Only in a perfect world would everyone obey the law....and this isn't it.

I know what you mean -- usually I'm not paying attention. I got nailed for speeding through a construction zone -- all the cars around me were going the same speed, but I changed lanes, was an easy mark! Double fine -- as it should be. As if that weren't enough, one of the managers in our office building overlooking the freeway just happened to be looking out of his 6th story office and recognized my car, waved a bunch of people over to watch. He has razzed me about that for over 15 years, and his story gets embellished each time.

Another time didn't notice the sign lowering the speed limit, and was probably going over the earlier limit anyway. A sheriff deputy pulled me over and did the usual ID, etc. Then told me I was exceeding the limit by 20 mph; gulp, here comes the ticket. Then he said, 'Do you think you can drive a little slower from here on, you have a beautiful car, and I would hate to see it wrecked.' I stammered, well, uh, yes, and he smiled and sent me on my way. Never forgot that.

Last time I got a ticket was in the mail - for running the turnpike tollbooth without paying (I have a history with turnpike tollbooths). An unfamiliar new traffic pattern trapped me in a special lane, I still don't know what the hell it was for, and before I knew it, I was through and on down the road in a pack of traffic. Had to make a plane, no time to go back, and I won't say that Oogie's hand was on my knee, but he was in the car and I think he may have distracted me.

In Lenawee county MI we have a 2006 Dodge Charger that can only be identified by the push bar in front. Sneaky! Hasn't caught me yet but it's been close. Known locally as just "The black Charger" it has paid for itself more than once. My faithful Valentine 1 radar detector has outsmarted it so far. State troopers up north used to cruise in Ford Mustangs. Stopped me once on Rt. 23 near Cheboygan but I started talking cars with the trooper and only got a warning. Pays to be a brown nose occasionally.

I was riding in a van on my way from Fla to Pa, the driver had a radar detector and used it the whole way. We got into VA, just tooling along and a cop pulled up next to us and shot his radar gun right in the window of the van. Needless to say we were pulled over and ticketed. I think they are legal in Pa, but I am not sure.

Don't like detectors, don't need to be encouraged in my faults. They're like hard liquor - make me act like somebody I can't afford to be.

Don, it also pays to be a gorgeous, hot blond.

Which is why I've NEVER gotten away with just a warning in my life.

Not in a long time. Not since Canterbury Court when Officer Dick was after me.

I had a motorcycle cop stalk me once. First time he pulled me over....he said anyone who can feed me or work on my body I let go. I worked at a deli so I could make him a sandwich I guess....the other definitely a no. His nickname was the Walrus because of his big handle bar moustache. Anytime I was at a gas station or driiving down the highway he patroled he was after me....not to ticket me but to flirt. He even followed me home to my driveway and out of the back of his motorcycle came by whole DMV record. Kinda sick and a bit scary.
