(CNN) -- An employee at a New Jersey chocolate processing plant died Wednesday after falling into a vat of hot chocolate, according to a spokesman for the Camden County Prosecutor's office.

Vincent Smith II, 29, was dumping raw chocolate into the vat for melting when he fell in from a nine-foot high platform. He suffered a fatal blow to the head from the vat's agitator, a paddle-like mechanism used for stirring the chocolate.

According to the Camden County prosecutor's office, three other people were on the platform at the time. One was able to shut the machinery off quickly, but it was too late to save Smith.

The facility, owned by Cocoa Services Inc., is managed and operated by by Lyons and Sons.

The rectangular vat, which was 8 feet deep, 14 feet long and 6 feet wide, was churning a batch of chocolate for Hershey's when the accident occurred, the prosecutor's office said.

I saw this on our news yesterday. Terrible thing.

If his time was up, I suppose there are worse ways to go.

I think I'd prefer to drown in a vat of beer myself.

But I still don't want to drink it.

My brother-in-law has worked as a cook for years for a major food corporation that makes canned soup. He says a guy fell in and drowned and they fished him out, repasteurized the soup and canned it. That was 30 years ago and I still won't eat canned soup.

My grandad died when he fell into a vat of whiskey, he worked at a distillery. It was a slow and agonising death. It would have been quicker but he got out twice for a piss.

It's not a good thing when folks start falling into beer vats. It's a good sign that trouble's brewing.

I heard about a guy who fell into a vat in a glass factory. Made a spectacle of himself.

Another guy fell into an upholstery machine at his job. Good news--he's fully recovered.

Then there's the guy who fell into a vat at the bubblegum factory. His boss chewed him out.

Death by Chocolate Dessert

1 (18.25 ounce) package chocolate cake mix
1/2 cup coffee flavored liqueur
5/8 cup dry chocolate mousse mix
8 (1.4 ounce) bars chocolate covered English toffee
2 (16 ounce) packages frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (1.5 ounce) bar milk chocolate candy

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour three 8 inch round cake pans.
Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Pour batter into the prepared pans.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 30 minutes. Let cake cool slightly then pierce cakes with a fork. Pour the coffee liqueur gradually over the three cake layers.
Prepare the chocolate mousse according to the package directions. Let chill in the refrigerator.
Once cake is cool break it into pieces. Layer cake pieces, chocolate mousse, crushed butter toffee candy bars, and whipped topping 1/3 at a time in a large glass bowl. Grate the chocolate candy bar over the top. Let chill in refrigerator for several hours before serving.

I seem to remember a story like this when somebody fell into a vat of chocolate in a Hershey's factory when I was in High School. Our homework for French was to find an "interesting" news story and translate it into French. The chosen ones would get to tell it to the class in French. Someone told this story to the rather attractive teacher. She was from PA. I ordered Death by Chocolate in a restaurant the other day but they were all out of it. I went for Maimed by Meringue instead.

Irked by Ice Cream. Nice one! I bet Ben and Jerry's could come up with a recipe for that one!
