DID ANYONE ELSE DO THE DAVINCI CODE QUEST ON GOOGLE?

Today was the final puzzle and the entries closed out 10 minutes after the puzzle went live online.

I was just wondering if any other Sploofaholics are into code-cracking as well.

The grand prize is pretty fabulous!

Yes, I finished the puzzles, and am registered. Only one person is going to walk away with it all though - the rest of use just get the decoder rings....er....cryptex copies.

Sorry, that should be - the rest of us! Guess I am better at code-cracking than at typing.

Me too! But what grand prize?

I noticed when I signed up there were US, UK and Oz versions. We get the chance to win some cool stuff, but nothing described as a grand prize?

Very curious

Oh yeah. You can't even afford to pay the taxes on the Grand Prize, so you sure don't even want to win it. I forget all the pieces - but it includes a trip for four to NY, London, Paris & Rome, all sorts of computer equipment, HD TV set, Sony digital camera, walkman, and all sorts of other Sony stuff. I do remember that the Grand Prize was worth $128,000. That's over $38,000 worth of taxes. And it all goes to one person! Everyone else gets the decoder ring.

But the puzzles were fun.

Not EVERYONE else - the first (or top) 10,000 get the cryptic decoder thingy. I'm sure this fun and clever marketing tool attracted a LOT more people than that!

I completed the puzzles but was obviously NOT one of the first 10,000 with the highest scores (or lowest times, or whatever) since I was not invited to Phase 2

Here are the US rules: http://flash.sonypictures.com/movies/davincicodequest/us/rules/

No one should be invited to Phase 2 yet. The actual ending of registration for Phase 2 ends at 1:00 EDT today.

I just read a forum where a person submitted their registration at 1:04 yesterday. That means it took them only 4 minutes to take the Day 24 puzzle, enter in their Google ID, and then register to be a finalist. And they said they did not make the top 10,000! Geez, how fast do you gotta be? There must have been a ton of people taking this challenge who were super fast. I submitted mine around 1:10. I never got an email saying I was a finalist either.

Oh, then I guess I misunderstood. I thought that everyone who registered was a semi-finalist, or whatever you want to call it. No, I didn't get any kind of email from them either.

I finished the puzzle (no clue what time) and sent it in, got the registration form back, filled that out and sent it in, and that's the last I know. Figured they weren't going to tell us anything till May 26th, since they asked for a phone number for that afternoon.

Am I wrong? Alice

I read the rules a lot closer this time. To be a finalist you have to be one of the first 10,000 people to send in your registration after completing the 24 puzzles. IF you are among the 10,000 finalists, you will be sent an email on or around the 15th. You will then be sent the Cryptex in the mail around the 18th. Then you have from 1:00 on the 19th to 1:00 on the 21st to complete the five final puzzles. Whoever does all 5 right and in the fastest time is Grand Prize Winner.

According to their rules, if you were a finalist you would get a letter by May 18 because the final quest starts May 19. They made no mention if there was any other way you would be notified if you were a finalist.

These are exact words copy and pasted from the official rules.

Notification: Phase 1: Finalists will be notified by email on or about May 15, 2006 and at time of receipt of their Finalist Prize which will be shipped by postal mail to be received by May 18, 2006.

I got an email tonight that told me I would get another email on the 15th if I was a finalist.

Yeah, I got that email, two of them, actually. Apparently, once you get the 'cryptex' it will give you the code (ip address?) to go to start the final quest.

If you are one of the 10,000, you are to receive that email and then a snail mail 3 days later.

The grand prize looks awesome. The trip is 4 first class tickets to London, Paris, Rome, the way I read it, it is 4 first class tickets from your home to London, then 4 first class tickets from your home to Paris etc.

I'm a HUGE DaVinci Code fan - took a DaVinci Code tour in London last year that was fabulous!

For any other puzzle-minded people, there is another 'quest' being done by Eurostar that hasn't ended yet.

Yeah, I did the Eurostar quest too when I heard about it. It's not as fun. I did it all in one day and then it told me I can't do the rest until the 19th.

Someone told me the eurostar quest wasn't open to US citizens tho. Not real sure about that one.

Well, I'm going to be wandering around Rome from Wednesday, and I'll probably be the only tourist WITHOUT 'The Da Vinci Code' in my hand!

YAY! I actually got one of the crptex thingies in the mail! Although I am disappointed in its size. Rather small. But happy that I won something for free. I doubt that I will win the grand prize though.

I got a cryptex too!

My only concern is the possibility of cheating. I'm wondering if everyone gets the same puzzles for the final or if they are different. If you knew someone who got a cryptex and they solved their puzzles first, then it would be easy to go in later with your own account and just enter the answers in quickly.

Congratulations, finalists! I was too slow. I got an email with a congratulatory message from Sir Ian McKellen instead of a Cryptex. Good luck on the final quest!
