Next month we're heading to new territory for me. After several days in Barcelona, we're taking a cruise that stops in Marseille, Savona, Naples, Palmero, Tunis, and Palma de Mallorca. We are set for stops at Savona (the in-laws want to see Monte Carlo), Naples (train to Pompeii), and Tunis (Carthage and Sidi Bou Said). Suggestons for sites/excursions in the other locations???

I don't have any suggestions, Dave, but I hope you and your family have a really enjoyable trip. It sounds really interesting.

Same here. I think I would fit nicely inside a steamer trunk.

As my request slowly sinks to the bottom, I realize three things:

1) I probably overestimated the number of veteran world travelers on Sploofus Island,
2) the preceding three responses in this thread brought a big smile to my face--yes, we're very lucky to be going on this fun trip, and
3) my post here provides one more bump to elicit maybe just a little advice!

Well, if you were going to London, Tokyo or Tel Aviv, I could help you...

Rick Steve has put together some great books on travel that are so simple to follow. If your time is limited, he'll tell you exactly where in each site you want to look to make the most of a visit, etc. Check his books out, he's written alot about Europe.

Depends. Which of those locations is closest to Texas?

When you go to Pompeii take a side trip to the other city destroyed by Vesuvius. . .Herculaneum.

Assuming a short stay in each port -- I think I'd have a difficult time returning to the ship at Palermo -- Sicily is rich, historically and culturally. Palermo of course is the cradle of Mafia-ism. I hope you see as much as possible. Bon voyage.

If you need a personal trainer to help you keep on track with your workouts ... gimme a call. You only have to pay my travel expenses. I'll give you a discount on my hourly fee. I'll even carry your bags.

Actually, on second thought, YOU have to carry your bags. I'll make it part of your workout.

Have a great trip! I hope you get some responses that are more useful than this one!
