REDHEADS' EXTRA PAIN

http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/07/30/redhead.pain.dentist/index.html

I don't know if this is true, but I do know that when I go to the dentist I have to get MANY shots. The dentist is always asking "can you feel that?" ....YEA!

Don't you remember the dentist telling you he was going to slap me? Cause I could feel everything!

I remember the same dentist trying to kiss me. We can't go by him.

Besides, you bit him.

Sounds like he deserved it!

Although I have extremely high pain tolerance, I have found that oftentimes, anesthesia doesn't work on me. I have had dental shots not take, an epidural during labor with my son lasted about 15 minutes, although the spinal for the emergency c-section took, but with my youngest daughter, the spinal wouldn't take. They tried 10 times and finally got me numb but I could still feel the surgery. It just didn't hurt. It was horrifying, nonetheless, to be able to feel cutting in my abdomen.

For my knee surgery, they just put me out. Fine by me. I didn't feel a thing.

OMG Lodi....when I had my son, I had an epidural....I didn't feel pain but I felt him being born. I was okay with it, but how odd!

Not here. In fact, I refuse any painkillers at the dentist whenever possible, because as far as I'm concerned, the unpleasant side effects of both novocaine and laughing gas aren't worth the benefits they provide.

I've never had laughing gas. Looks fun in the movies.

I used to have a lot of natural red highlights in my hair when I was younger, (before the greys) and when I had an epidural 22 years ago, it didn't take at all...I felt a lot of pain and it also took forever to get done (and for nothing) - it did not work for me. Weird.

Haven't had the pain thing, but the allergy thing. My doctor said redheads are more prone to have allergies...don't know why.

I don't have any allergies, and I don't get poison ivy. Always enjoyed teasing my brothers and sister when they got it.

Nitrous is overrated. MHO. And the big dirty secret is the drilling hurts just as much. You just don't care!

I am a natural redhead and have always had a high pain tolerance. Perhaps I am the exception to the rule. Interestingly, now that I've gone silver, my pain threshold seems to have lowered and I'm more sensitive to pain. Maybe that's just age.

I seem to have a fairly good pain tolerance for a redhead.....perhaps that's coz it is somewhat faded these days as I got (shudder) older?
