Has anyone ever taken a cruise to the Bahamas from Miami? If so, any advice?

Also, does anyone know a reasonably priced hotel (cough cough) on Miami Beach, with beach access?

I did cruise from Miami to the Bahamas! I did stay in Miami Beach! But it was 21 years ago, I just remember having fun! Which makes this post as much help as Andys.

I think Martina's post was more helpful.

You can Google for "cheap hotels" in Miami Beach.

I did it in NY once a few years ago. Was overcharged at $100.

I dunno, Lodi. It sounds like no one has any updated info for you. I think you need to send someone ahead of you to check it all out and make sure everything is ready for you.

Because you are my friend, I will sacrifice and offer my services to that effect. You'll have to hurry, though, because it's only 6 more days till teachers here are called back into service.

When will the ticket be arriving? (And will any spending $$ be included?)

Been on 11 Cruises, but have not done the Bahamas yet.. What cruise line are you taking?

I Googled 'cheap Miami hotels" and it brought up my ex-wife's home phone number.

Diva305 lives near Miami. Maybe you could check with her about hotels.

Don't know if you've already made your reservations for a Miami cruise or not, but Cape Canaveral (about 45 minutes from Orlando) is another port with many departures. Hotels should be much more budget friendly there. You could even add on a day or two at Disney or Universal. All hotels and parks in Orlando are at bargain prices at the moment. In fact, if you combine a Disney stay with a Disney cruise (out of Canaveral) you'll save a ton and won't have to worry about transportation to and from the cruise ship. They have 3, 4 and 7 night excursions. The ships are amazing, and the onboard entertainment caters to tots, kiddies, pre-teens, teens and adults in separate programs and facilities. The Teen Club, according to some teens that we know who have recently cruised Disney, is tons of fun. As an adult, you can play away knowing that your kids are well cared for.

Some "last minute" cruise bargain website sends me email once or week or so with the full list of sale prices for cruises. Tried to find the link, but it's now buried somewhere. I've seen recent "last minute" Disney cruises for as low as $499 with a balcony upgrade included.

Just a thought...

I'm using Carnival cruise lines. I chose Miami for 2 reasons: The cruise is in January (shhhhhh - don't tell my family as its a Christmas present) and it looked warmer in Miami than Cape Canaveral, and I'm using our frequent flyer miles to get the 5 of us to Florida and none of the flights matched up with the cruises from there.

Thanks for the hotel suggestions - I'll go check them out.

(Our last big fam vacation was to Disneyland, Universal Studios, Sea World, etc., so I was trying to avoid going there again)

You MUST see Atlantis, Paradise Island, in the Bahamas.

We usually fly and stay there.

What ship are you going on?

I'll check out hotels for ya; but I get free rooms at Fountainbleu and Hard Rock, so I don't know prices.

Also, when you're in town, you should visit the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel. Lots of GREAT memorabilia there and a GORGEOUS POOL. It's up the road in Hollywood. That's my second home
