Ok...I admit...I watched it. (you can start your flogging now). The show was great....

The results were better. My faith in humanity has been restored.

Thank God Taylor won....

Nuff said....

I only have one question: Do I make you proud?

There were some awesome guests tonight although nothing will ever match Bo Bice and Lynyrd Skynyrd last year.

What was up with Toni Braxton? I could only hear every other word that she sang.

And Mary J. Blige sang so loud I couldn't hear Elliot when they were singing at the same time.

Oh, and Meatloaf?? He's aging and so is his voice!

Thought it was cool that Chris sang with Live after all that talk about him taking credit for one of their songs. Sniff sniff, I miss seeing Chris on TV.

By the way, when will they ever stop making them sing those lame-a$$ songs at the end of Idol? The whole season they are slamming originality down everyone's throats and then they always give the winners these sappy, sucky, everyone-hold-hands-and-sing-Kumbaya, songs to record.

I never watched it, but everything I read or heard reminded me of the concept of factoring in math.

I'm with you, Eesus. It's like they hired a Hallmark employee to write the songs. And not a good Hallmark employee, either. Like, the guy that everybody hates from the mailroom or something. And Meatloaf? Has he had a stroke? What the hell? That was a truly surreal TV moment. When Katherine came out, he looked startled. Do you think they told him it was going to be a solo?

I was wondering the same thing about Toni Braxton. She has made some great songs, but to be honest, I couldn't make anything out of her words last night. Just sort of a mismatch really...

I'm very happy Taylor won, he definately deserved it! Meatloaf was horrible, I missed Toni Braxton, because I was flipping channels. Mary J. Blige was so loud, does she not realize on a duet you should be able to hear both parts. Pretty good show though for being 2 hours.

Haha! I've never been a Toni Braxton fan but that just cinched the deal. I asked my husband if she was whacked out or something. My 9 year old daughter said she sounded like a man. But I couldn't understand her and she kept throwing out a "WOO!" every other word. Sheesh.

Oh and Meatloaf! When they said Meatloaf and they opened the curtains and he was standing up there. I could see his red hanky and I got goosebumps because Meatloaf, at least to me, has always been one of the most intense performers and one of the best voices. Oh my gosh, how many times did I play my Bat Out of Hell album when I was in junior high? I let my kids stay up to watch the final and I told them "OMG, you guys its Meatloaf!!! They wanted to know who that was and my husband said, "He's one of the best singers ever." And then he started singing and my daughter turned to me like ???????! I was stunned. I was sad.

Not being a Prince fan, however, I was pleasantly surprised. I thought he was awesome. I was just disappointed that he didn't wear the cheekless yellow pants.

I don't know if it was Katherine working the facial expressions when she was singing with Meatloaf or WHAT, but sometimes she had this "what the....?????" look on her face, usually when he was sounding terrible, like she couldn't believe she got 'stuck' with him or something. Ditto the verbage about Toni Braxton--I feel she ruined my Elliott's moment. And I had a total premature senior moment, when Taylor started singing In the Ghetto and they announced his co-singer, I fully expected them to say "Ladies and gentlemen, Elvis Presley" and was literally shocked for a minute when it wasn't him. Then I just started laughing at myself. Ah, me.

I felt so sorry for Taylor having to sing with Toni Braxton. She didn't know the words and looked completely stoned. Also, she kept smiling and "In the Ghetto"? Very inappropriate. Actually, I'm not sure to what song that would be appropriate. Any suggestions?

I really enjoyed the Wolfgang Puck/Kellie Pickler segments. I actually laughed out loud.
Between Taylor and Katherine, it had to be Taylor, but I think it should have been Taylor and Chris in the finals. When the Idols were first selected, I never dreamed it would be Taylor who won. I still like Paris...she has a phenomenal voice!

Perhaps they should have paired up Toni Braxton and Meatloaf and then played "guess what this song is?" I can't believe I'm making fun of Meatloaf when I used to idolize him.

I need a moment to myself.

I swear at some point that Toni tried to get Taylor to touch her. She grabbed his hand and placed it on her hip. But it looked like he wasn't having none of that!

Star of the night was Dionne, though. Class act all the way.

Ha! Lulise, I thought I saw that (Toni Braxton TRYING to get Taylor to touch her) but then I said to myself "No, can't be..." but YOU saw it too! That was WEEEEEird.
And yes, Essus...the "First Single" songs SUCK!
A whole lot! Who writes that crap?
I'm sad I didn't see Meatloaf. Sounded like some kind of spectacle.
Prince still looks and sounds the same (albeit the look is a wee bit more plasticky).
Glad Taylor won.
All is well.

OMG - the Clay Aiken thing! After that, my 9 year old daughter turned to me with real dreamy eyes and said, "Gee Clay is sooooooo cute." We'll have to talk about that in a few years.

But did anyone notice they finally had to get the spazzy Clay-clone to sit down and quit singing?

I do believe they also cut his mic! Even in his raptures he was still trying to sing.

I had Tivo'd it because I was getting home a little after it started, and I actually saved it to watch again. Those parts were REALLY hilarious!

I saw some of the beginning, but I taped most of it b/c I didn't want to have to sit through 2 hours of filler to see the results.
Afterwards I just fast forwarded to the last 10 minutes.
After reading this thread I think I'll have to go back and watch some of it though!

I did catch the Meatloaf thing. Very funny - him doing his usual drama, singing to her, and her constantly turning away from him to the audience, looking like she was pleading for someone to save her.
