GARRYBL'S HYPER-ARTICULATE WP

Okay, I finished it, by pure luck I think! I still don't know what I was doing, and never "got" what the puzzle was about! Well, there's always the fun of the WP to be had and it was fun, just confusing. Maybe I should try sleep..... Good night!

Interesting puzzle, but I didn't get it either.

I hadn't tried a WP in a while, but since this was one of Barry's, I thought I would give it a try. I bailed, totally confused, in the middle of the second puzzle. I guess I'm not really ready to go back to these things for a while, not when they are this unfathomable. Total confusion isn't fun, I'm afraid.

I haven't got a clue what that was about, just a game of "hangman" for me. Not my favourite kind of WP.

I only had one that I "got" but didn't pick up anything there to apply to the others. This one was just on a whole different plane from where my brain functions.

Can't wait for the mystery to be cleared up.

I LOVE Keith Whitley. His early death was a shame.

I got the 'hook' on the third one, but by then I'd burned a lot of the letters. Very creative. Gary must have gone through a ton of phrases to find ten that fit his theme.

Hahahahahahahaha!

Garry filled in all the letters - and he's STILL #8 on his own puzzle!

Its early days yet; but I was careful to fill them ALL in.

I may have gone too far this time.
(The title was meant to help but it may not have done the trick)

Um, I, well, I, uh...finished it! These things go a lot faster when you're just randomly plunking down letters

Too far.

After the first two left me baffled and the third wrong letter on the third one, I just started at A and clicked till it was full, out of curiosity.

Sorry, Barry, not my kind of puzzle, but I still think you're great.

Difficult, and a points shrinker But also very clever.

I would comment on whether the puzzle was clever or not, if I could understand what it was all about. I'm sure there was supposed to be a well thought out theme, but I just didn't see it.

Went totally over my head, too. Not fun. About halfway through, I just started random letter-hitting just to get it over with.
I sure hope you explain it once the puzzle closes.

I had absolutely no clue what this was about. But it wasn't horrifically painful.

I mean that as a compliment.

From the comments above I thought I was in for Barry's revenge for my Slice the Cheese puzzle that baffled him - beware, Barry, there's another one aging in the shed .

But this was very well-conceived. As usual just need to follow the instructions

Thank you, Barry.

Short, sweet and lotsa fun.

However, the author's automatic 5000 points will be a rather good score.

Holy S**T. I don't know how on earth we took first with 2 minutes left, because we have NO idea what that was all about.

I am absolutely in awe of all of you that placed in the top ten......well even the top 25! Well done. Now hopefully, there will be answers forthcoming.

Based on the thread's comments- I decided to plug away knowing it must have been a "hyper-adventure" from the mind of Garrybl. I dreaded seeing my ranking when finished.

Well, I guess being in the top 20 isn't so bad. 4100 points turned out to be a decent score. Quite a challenge.

This will be the last word puzzle I'll get to take for awhile. Can't wait to play more puzzles when I return.

You'll be missed, Al.

This, of all things, was my very first time in my 3 years here to finish in the top 10 (I was 9th) - and it's a funny feeling.

I'd be a lot prouder if I'd know what the heck I was doing and had earned it, rather than lucked into it. As I said - there was only one of them that I got easily, and the other 4.....not so much.

I think I just figured it out. King Lear just popped into focus.

Hyper-ARTICULATE means the phrase has an *article* wedged into it somewhere.

In, the, an, it, like that. Hyper ... suggesting beyond or extra??

I had one that was the "coast of living" ; A is the hyper-article.

Eureka! Now I get it too. Thanks Smoke.

I forget the other ones off hand. Very lucky I scored as well as I did.

I had Mania Farrow and the clue was something about Woodster. I bet they're all dead clever and we just didn't figure them out.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could have a thingy like a quiz description to give people a little more info?

Now that Al has described it sounds pretty cool. I had to run to the bathroom to vomit after I solved the first puzzle. NO! Not because of the puzzle. Must have been something I ate. Literally bailed.

OK first of all apologies to everyone who found this impossible. I admit it was hard but the title was 'hyper-articulate' for a reason.
Each clue had an extra article --strictly an article (a/an/the) in it.
Each phrase was a standard phrase that would be well known but when it had an extra article added it became something completely different.

So the ten phrases were:

WS dominator hero
King Leather

Wool-gathering fearfully
Panicking daisies

Enemy bolt ready to fire
Lock and loathed

Orders locks from above
Hair Angel

D. Quaid is perfect dad
Father from heaven

Facsimile over your head
Fair Canopy

Doyle’s hero with plume
Valley of feather

RPI by the sea
Coast of living

Woodster’s Loony litter
Mania Farrow

Hated poet in TR’s play
The Browning aversion

I'm prepared to accept the brickbats now; but if you ever see a similar title to a WP you will know what to expect.

I finally made the top 10, but out of luck more than anything. After the second puzzle, I knew there was an extra article in each puzzle, but I also got all the puzzles that had an extra "the."

Nothing personal Barry but when I read the comments made on your quiz I decided against taking it. I did not want make a fool of myself. Reading the phrases with the clues, I realise that for once I had made the good choice. Cheers

Quite Briilliant - you, and your puzzle. Not so brilliant - me ! LOL (it's all so easy now that I understand it, but what would the fun in that be from the outset ? )
