PRAYER REQUEST

Dear Friends,

I am asking for your prayers for my dear friend Karen, whom I have known since we were eleven years old. She is having a hysterectomy on Tuesday, August 18 (2009). She is scheduled to be the first patient having surgery by that surgeon on Tuesday. An oncologist/gynecologist who will perform the surgery has told her she has a 50% chance of having ovarian cancer.

Karen is a person of strong Christian faith, and she is confident that God will take care of everything...whether it's through the surgery alone or through additional necessary procedures. I, however, am struggling to stop turning concern into downright fear.

Please pray for Karen and her family as well as the surgeon and other hospital personnel. And, if you don't mind, please say a quick prayer for me just once.

Blessings,
Katherine

Katherine,

I will praying for your friend - that healing will come in the best way, God's way. I am praying for the surgeon, that his or her mind will be clear and hands sure and skillful during the surgery. I am praying also for you. Remember, fear is not from God. It is from the enemy. May you rest in the palm of HIS hand and lay your cares aside, and have peace.

In Christian Love,

Nancy

I also have lifted this situation up to the God of all hope. I will continue to pray for both of you. This request hits home for me. I am waiting to hear when I will be having a hysterectomy myself. They have found cancer cells in my uterus but only cells no tumour. I have an excellent prognosis. Still this is major surgery and I am not totally at peace with the situation though I feel Gods help and presence.

Update on Karen:
Sorry I didn't send this before, but I have been so exhausted.... The surgeon found extensive endometriosis which had attached itself to multiple organs as well as bones. It took him four hours to perform the surgery, removing the bad tissue and organs as needed. The quick tissue examination they did during the surgery did not show any obvious signs of cancer. They, of course, did a biopsy to send off for a thorough examination. The results of the latter exam should come back in a few days.
Karen is awake and alert some of the time. She's on morphine to help with the pain. They are not letting her have any food or drink at all. She said the worst part of it is not being able to have beverages (not even ice chips).
I thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. I know they make all of the difference in the world, and I am grateful also for your words of wisdom and encouragement. Thank you for letting God use you!
Blessings,
Katherine

I meant to tell you, Bookworm, that I am praying for you, too. I am praying that you will be guided to do exactly what you need to do to handle the situation as God would have you handle it. I pray, also, that whenever you feel uneasy, God will remind you of His omnipotence in this as in all things. When I am discouraged about health problems, He often "nudges" me with that still, small voice: "Who made you? Do you not think that I know every cell in your body--what is happening with it and exactly what it needs? And why, after making the Ultimate Sacrifice of My Beloved Son, would I fail to do for you what is best in THIS situation? All that is needed is your trust in me...and remember that you may always increase your trust in me by asking for more!"
(And how grateful I am that He is willing to give us the ability to trust in Him....otherwise, I would be in big, big trouble.) lol
Grace and peace,
Katherine

Thank you so much for the update on your friend and your thoughts and prayers for me. I prayed on numerous occasions for you both. I still have no news on my surgery date. I made some calls and found out that I fell through the cracks in the system and got lost. After a considerable run around I am told I will have be given a time for a meeting with the surgeon sometime next week. (I will find out when I will have the doctor's appointment next week)Then the surgery time will be set.
Anyway thanks so much for these helpful uplifting thoughts. Yes God knows me because He made me. He knows the way that I take and when He has tried me I shall come forth as gold.

Update on Karen: She has been home now for three weeks and is doing better every day. The biopsy results were negative for cancer, and I thank God for that and for all of you and your prayers.

I am wondering, Bookworm, if you have found out when your surgery will be. Please let us know.

Hi again:
I finally found out my surgery is October 26 at 1:00 pm. I am a teacher and here we start school after labour Day so I have been busy getting that all going. I will have to be off for six weeks after the surgery. I will have a large incision which will take time to heal. I am obviously not excited about this prospect but am believing they will find this is stage one cancer and the hysterectomy will be the end of the required treatment.
What were your friend Karen's test results? Did they find cancer ?

Dear Bookworm,

Karen is doing well. She does not have cancer, according to the biopsy results (I thank God for that!). She was running some errands one day last week and stayed out longer than she had planned, and she has been regretting it ever since--she has been hurting more frequently and more intensely since that day. She is gradually getting better but says she will not overdo things again!

Thanks for sharing about your surgery date, etc. I will continue to pray for your as well as the surgeon and all who are involved in your care before, during, and after the surgery. In the meantime, I hope you take it easy as much as possible, although I know that may be difficult in your profession.

Thanks again for your prayers. It is indeed hard to take it easy in my profession. I will have to do report cards for all of my sixty students before I leave for the surgery so that is not an exciting prospect. I try not to think about the surgery and manage to do that most of the time.

Good grief! Just getting the school year started and the procedures in place and in habit is hard enough without this weighing on your mind.

I'm so sorry you can't just be a lady of leisure and prepare mentally/emotionally without stress.

Please keep us updated.

I'm so glad to hear Karen is cancer free and healing! Good for her - and good for you to know your friend is getting better!

Thanks so much both of you for your concern and prayers. I have really just a week and a half until surgery. The surgery will be in the big city whereas I spend most of my life in the small town where I teach. Weather permitting I spend weekends and holidays with my husband in the big city. My specific prayer request is that God would provide someone to accompany me to the hospital the day of the surgery a person of faith to encourage me before the event. My husband would not be much help at that time as his faith is not strong. He will come and see me after I am out of surgery.

Thanks so much, Janice. I passed your message on to Karen, and she appreciates your kind thoughts and prayers--and the prayers of all.

Bookworm, I am praying for God to send you exactly what you need when you need it. Perhaps there is someone in your church who is a strong person of faith who would welcome the chance to accompany to your surgery. At any rate, I know our Heavenly Father has the right plan all ready for you. And remember that you will be taking us with you to the surgery!!!! (You won't have to get the doc's permission for us to go with you into the operating room--LOL.)

Then as you continue to breathe in and out, think of God's goodness comforting you as you inhale, and His Spirit releasing you from all fears as you breathe out. Also picture us bringing your needs before our Father's throne.

God has provided a couple from my church and they are picking me up to take me to the hospital tomorrow morning. I am so grateful to them and to God for this. It will really help me stay calm. I will be in the hospital for about a week. Will post as soon as I am able after that. I am surrounded with so much prayer. I dont think I have ever experienced such caring before this situation. My pastor and his wife are making a special trip into the city on Tuesday to visit me. I keep getting calls from family members saying they are praying and their churches are praying. Add that to all of you praying and I am really in great shape. God bless everybody for this.

I am so happy you found someone to volunteer to take you into the city. I have been praying for you all week and look forward to hearing from you. I am glad that you are being uplifted by others, too. It seems to me that times of tribulation are times when we can become even more aware of those around us who care.

Thanks so much for caring about me and for all the prayers..
I finally got home from the hospital yesterday. I havent had a computer available to let you know anything.. The surgery was a success and the pathology report very good news. The cancer was contained in my uterus and no further treatment is required.
I had a bowel obstruction after the surgery and had constant nausea and vomiting until they figured this out. The treatment was unpleasant to say the least and I had trouble with inserting and keeping ivs. It has been an ordeal. My Mom is with me and looking after me for the next three weeks. I praise God for this blessing. We dont get to see each other much as she lives two days drive away . I praise God also for good weather and driving conditions between the big city where I had the surgery and the small town where I live.

I am so happy to know that all is well now, and I rejoice at the good news about the cancer being contained. It sounds like you had quite a time, but it is so good that you are feeling better. I apologize for not responding more quickly--I looked up your reply a few weeks ago but did not get a chance to respond at that time. I pray that you are continuing to feel better and better.

Grace and peace,
Katherine
