Couple weeks back I gave the last names of the shuttle crew who were then in space, including the Japanese guy they were transporting to the ISS, and asked "why are these names in the news?" Out of maybe 30 people, nobody came up with it. Couldn't believe it. That's how much the space program is ignored and taken for granted now, even here, where we can see the ships go up on a clear day, and the sonic booms of the returns rattle our windows.

Living through the space race was pretty cool.

Felix, have you been to the Space Center yet?

Not Lately. I have roots here from both sides of my family, so I've seen most of the cool stuff here over the years. My cousin worked for NASA as a programmer for a while. He took me on tours of Kennedy as well as Huntsville when he worked there. He now lives in Ormond Beach. I had to disown him when he took a job in Daytona. You can guess where? Although he can supply ticket to any race (free of charge, except the local one) I refuse to go. When my children ask about him, I say that he process pork products, so that they won't lose respect for him (mostly kidding). There is so much to do here it's like you need a job or something to afford it all. Florida Rocks!

If you haven't been in the past several years you'll find it very much changed. Was the astronauts' memorial wall up when you were there? My favorite part is still the art museum - worth the ticket all by itself, I think.

I've been maybe half a dozen times over 20 years, it's one of my favorite places to take visitors, and then wind up the day with a late afternoon drive through the wildlife refuge on the north end of the island, finishing up with sunset photography from the dikes - fantastic!

You're right, Florida rocks in many ways!

Felix, I learned a LONG time ago not to play trivia with my mother, so I understand your heading.

It's sort of like letting Gene Kelly be a Dancing with the Stars contestant.
