And my last one until next February. That's when "most" of me was born. I also share my brother's birthday because he is such a part of me now. But I call today my "renal birthday" because seven years ago today i received the gift of life from my brother. And I have been sponging off John's kidney ever since! (I would especially like to thank my parents for making the spare parts.)
If you're wondering about becoming an organ donor, I can attest from first-hand experience that it makes a difference in someone's life! The only sad thing about it is that I may not be able to convince Justin to give me five more wager tokens. But life is still pretty good!

That's an awesome story! It must be wonderful to have a brother as one of your guardian angels.

But man - do you owe him forever! Bet you have to wash his car a lot.

Pretty good birthday to have!

Yikes! If I had three every year I'd be - 186!

Good for you, and many many many more!

Actually I don't wash his car or anything like that. I figure I've already gotten everything I can from him!
(Though I have cautioned him that there is a way I can receive his other kidney..but it's not good for him!)

I'm sure the sploof-crows would like to know more about the procedure you and he followed to get the transplant.
Make a good Salty Dog letter....

WoW! It must be nice to celebrate 3x a year. Congratulations! I will be an organ donor too. My kids don't like the idea they want the funeral thing. I prefer to help some one even after I'm gone. You have a great brother. Celebrate life

Happy Birthday to you! What an amazing brother you have, no medical benefit to him but the priceless benefit of keeping you around in his life. I guess that was a no brainer for him, he must have boundless love for you. We hear of it often but it's such a courageous thing to do...congrats to you both and continued good health.

And are we ever glad your parents taught your brother to "share."

I agree, this would make an interesting letter or post in Salty Dog. Just remember to copy what you write before you hit "post message" -- just in case you time out and lose what you've written. I'm sure it will take more than one posting to tell the whole story.

I have also marked my drivers' license that I want to be an organ donor and I've told my kids. But your story reminds me that I need to tell them again today, just in case they have forgotten.

Happy Renal Birthday! (and tell your brother we all said thanks.)

An excellent point, Pat, about sharing your wishes with your family. That's THE BEST WAY to make sure it happens. Stickers on driver's licenses are fine but wallets and purses don't always stay with you in an accident. Thanks to all who have decide to be organ donors. (There are currently about 100, 000 people on the waiting list.) I'll see if I can begin the story later today. Right you are it's a long one...but with a happy ending so far!

Wow! What do you get as presents on a renal birthday? Kidney beans?

Seriously, that is awesome. So glad you got that kidney.

Congratulations and I have great respect for your brother. I would certainly consider doing it for my brother and think the reverse would be true too.
